As a teacher, I use a communicative method that aims to learn a second language through real-life examples to be able to communicate in everyday situations. My classes are fun and effective. With me, you will learn grammar, vocabulary, culture, and we will focus on conversation. If you are a beginner, we can create a plan with the basic topics of Spanish so that you can start learning this wonderful language.

After my last series of sessions with Helí, I really put my learning to the test. I enrolled in a 9-month course for professional development in my field, but rather than doing so in my native language, I enrolled in a class cohort being taught in Spanish. Now 2 months into the program, I can reflect back on how my experiences with Helí prepared me well for this challenge. While we discussed grammatical questions I had in our sessions, we more often had conversations and played games that forced me to use Spanish, to speak Spanish. Those games, in particular, served (and serve) me well - one was Taboo (Tabú) - where you can't use certain words but still need to express what something is to your partner. I have to use that in my class, in small group breakouts, and in one-to-one conversations not because a word is forbidden, but because it is unknown. Either I'm working my way around expressing an idea without a word that I don't know in Spanish, or I'm asking whomever is speaking to express their thoughts differently because I don't understand the word they're using. The confidence I gained while working with Helí enabled me to take on this additional challenge, which further enables me to grow in 2 ways at once - professionally due to the course topic, and as a bilingual person, for more exposure to and participation in "real" Spanish. ¡Gracias a ti, Helí!

Loved this last lesson, great fun and very informative. Heli emails me the grammar points that I got wrong which is a great help
