Are you ready to learn Dutch or Flemish?
Are you ready to stop wasting your time and money on methods that don't work? Then you came to the right place.
I try to make my online lessons as cosy as possible. I use the video-conference system, so I can see my students and they can see me; we can talk, we make the exercises together.
I explain all the grammar, and if my students have any doubt or questions, I explain it orally which I think makes it easier to be understood.
It is as if we were sitting in an office side by side. The only thing we cannot do is drink a coffee together while we study.
As soon as it is possible, I advise my students to start reading books in the language they learn, and from the very beginning to start listening to the TV. It is a way of being surrounded by the language.
I always focus on using the right accent, and this helps. I have students with a perfect accent. Listening to the language also helps to open the hears to the sounds, making easier to understand. From the very beginning I also start with small conversations in each lesson.
I now have students all over the world who have been very successful in improving their language skills. Concerning the level my students attain, of course it depends on them. Together we'll see what your needs are and how fast you want to learn.
I am a 39-year-old Dutch and Frisian native tutor. I would love to help you learn the Dutch language, customs, and culture.
In the first 32 years of my life, I was in The Netherlands where I have been teaching, training, and mentoring written and spoken Dutch to all skill levels.
In the past 7 years, I have been living throughout Europe. Whilst enriching my general cultural knowledge, I have had the pleasure of having students from many different backgrounds from all over the globe.
Please share with me, for which purpose would you like to learn Dutch(or Frisian)? I am more than happy to create a lesson plan with you based on your goals and current skill level.
I hope to talk with you soon, for now, have a great day. :-)
Hallo! I'm Pauline, and I would love to help you improve your Dutch. In my classes, the focus will be on conversation and interactive teaching. We will discuss what your needs and goals are, and adapt the classes so that they are perfect for you! This is what a typical class can include:
I'm a Belgian girl, and I love playing the violin, reading, decorating, going to museums & concerts and much more! I'm very interested in languages and cultures, so this is why I want to share mine with you. I taught myself Spanish, which gave me a lot of insight about what is helpful when learning a language. I hope to see you soon!
Hello! My name is Hiltje,
I am a Dutchie and have been living in Romania since 1997. I would love to teach you my mother-tongue "Nederlands".
I like to impart Dutch daily-life culture, history, and traditions in our lessons and conversations. As a professional speech therapist, I enjoy working one-to-one, and preparing a program just for you! You may be a kid, a teenager or an adult, a beginner or already advanced. My passion is teaching you to speak, write, and read Dutch while simultaneously developing your practical listening and grammar skills.
I have lot of materials and expertise to help you prepare for ALL the official Nt2 exams, which I like to share with you! I also tutor schoolchildren in German, English and Romanian with their homework (and naturally Dutch and Frisian for my own kids 🙂).
In your first lesson, we will establish your learning goals, how we will reach them together and what means we will use.
So if you want to learn Dutch just for fun, for family, for work, for traveling, or for study, I would love to support and tutor you!
See you online soon
Hello, my name is Renée. I am an experienced and passionate Dutch teacher. I teach absolute beginners to intermediate students, starting from 13 years old and above.
What can I help you with? Dutch basics, grammar, preparation for NT2 or state exams, job interviews, conversational Dutch, etc. Technically, ALL aspects of Dutch. I will provide you with customized and personalized lessons, tailored for your needs.
I use approved NT2 material, PowerPoints, voice recordings, online material, Word-documents, and much more. I will provide you with all the material you need for our lessons.
My lessons are relaxed, fun, structured, informative and of course educational. I know how challenging it can be to learn a new language, and I will guide you through it each step of the way. I will provide you with constructive criticism and will keep you updated about your progress. After our lesson you will receive the material for your next lesson, so that you have enough time to prepare.
When you are a beginner, we will first focus on building up some basic vocabulary and work on pronunciation. After that you will learn the fundamentals of Dutch grammar, and then we will fully focus on the practical use with lots of speaking, listening, reading, and writing exercises.
I am looking forward to meeting you. See you soon!
Hi! My name is Tanja, I'm 36 years old and I've been teaching Dutch since the beginning of 2019.
My teaching style highly depends on your level and goals. Are you a complete beginner? Then my lessons will be very structured providing you with all knowledge and skills needed for initial conversation. The more your levels grows, the more we'll try to get you out of your comfort zone and implement extracurricular activities.
If you are an intermediate speaker, I still like to use a book as a common thread to make sure that your grammar/sentence structure keep on improving and your 'internal dictionary' keeps on growing. However, we will loosen up much more. Eventually, the important thing is that you talk. Spontaneous conversation gives lots of opportunities to learn new USEFUL words and detect errors/difficulties.
Some of my advanced students like to keep on working with a book, usually the ones that enjoy studying grammar and doing more traditional homework. Others just want to practice conversation, either guided by a wide range of topics that I will provide, or, some really just want to master the typical Dutch 'een beetje kletsen' (small talk).
As for books, I usually work with 'Nederlands in Gang' (A0-A2), 'NL in Actie' (A2-B1), 'NL op Niveau (B1-B2). Additionally, I will provide extra grammar practices and of course there is the internet filled with articles, videos, etc.
I hope to see you soon in class!

1-on-1 lessons are perhaps the best way to improve speaking skills, and because of this many students use LanguaTalk to learn to speak Dutch fluently. That said, some students have other, more specific goals. Tell your tutor what your goals are and they'll tailor the lessons to your needs. Most tutors can help with any of the following:
New to LanguaTalk? You'll have one credit for a free trial. Many, but not all, tutors offer trials for free. If they do not, the price will be just 30 percent of their full lesson price, so you can still try a session at minimal cost.
Trial sessions are 30 minutes and are taught via video call (Skype or Zoom). They allow you to assess whether the tutor is a good fit for you, and get a feel for learning online. The tutor will assess your level and aim to understand your needs and interests so that they can customise any lessons you decide to take. You'll be encouraged to speak in Dutch as much as possible, but of course you can speak in English too!
If, after your trial session, you don't feel that the tutor is quite right for you, you can book a trial with another tutor for just 30 percent of their full lesson price.
Most of the Dutch tutors on our site are able to teach students of all levels. When you click on a tutor's profile you'll see if certain levels are not supported. For example, certain tutors cannot teach complete beginners.
Likewise, you can also see on the tutor's profile whether they're suitable for all ages. Online Dutch lessons are sometimes taken to support school/college studies. Usually, the tutor will be able to customise the lessons to follow the material and topics covered in the student's exams. Please note that as per our Terms & Conditions, students who are under 18 must get permission from a legal guardian before booking.
Lessons are taught 1-on-1 so that you receive your tutor’s full attention and can progress quickly. Each lesson is 55 minutes long and is taught via video call, allowing you to communicate with your tutor and share learning materials as if you were in the same room.
The tutors vary in terms of their teaching methods, resources, experiences, and personalities. So we suggest you look at several profiles to choose the best tutor for you. Whichever Dutch tutor you pick, they'll aim to tailor the lessons to your individual needs.
We want students to have an exceptional learning experience on LanguaTalk, so we only accept the very best tutor applications. Though we consider qualifications and experience, we place equal value on communication skills, personality and reviews from previous students. Almost all tutors are native speakers of the language they teach, and we require that they can speak English too.
Each tutor is different - they have different backgrounds, strengths, teaching methods and personalities. So we suggest you browse several profiles to find the right Dutch tutor for you.
The beauty of taking Dutch lessons online is that you can learn anytime, anywhere. When you choose a tutor, just check their calendar to make sure that they have available times that fit your schedule. Some Dutch tutors have limited availability due to teaching a lot of students.
Our booking system is designed to be incredibly easy to use. You can see tutors' available hours in your local time zone. If you choose to book lessons with a tutor, you'll be able to purchase them one at a time, or buy in bulk with a volume discount. You can pay securely by card on our website.
You can manually add bookings to your personal calendar, or if you use Google calendar, you can add bookings automatically with our syncing feature. You'll also be able to receive email reminders to help ensure you don't forget to turn up.
You can reschedule or cancel lessons in a couple of clicks. Note that this can only be done up to 24 hours before the lesson time. This rule is required to protect tutors, who lose income when lessons are cancelled at the last minute.
Sometimes students feel uncertain about learning Dutch online because they think it’ll be totally different to learning face-to-face. But usually when they try it, they find that the experience is almost the same and they often build a strong relationship with their tutor.
Once you start a video call with your chosen Dutch tutor online, you’ll be able to communicate with them as if you were in the same room. They’ll usually also share learning resources with you (using Google Docs, YouTube etc.) and you’ll be able to collaborate in real-time.
According to the Foreign Service Institute, if you already speak English, Dutch is one of the easiest languages to learn. The exact amount of time it will take you to become fluent will depend on many factors, such as your current level, your knowledge of similar languages, your capacity to learn, how you study, and how intensively you study. Some will be able to go from beginner to conversational fluency within a couple of months through intensive study. Others will take longer. Combining 1-on-1 lessons with an online Dutch tutor with regular self-study is an effective way to learn Dutch fast.
If you live in the US or Europe, face-to-face Dutch lessons may cost anywhere between $15 and $40 (USD) per hour. Online tutoring tends to be cheaper than face-to-face because the tutor doesn't need to travel to you. An online Dutch tutor could cost anywhere from $7 to $30 per hour, but be aware that very cheap tutors may lack experience. On LanguaTalk, Dutch tutors typically charge between $10 and $25 per hour.
Of course, learning 1-on-1 with an experienced Dutch tutor is not the cheapest way to learn; you could learn via a free app instead. But if you're serious about learning, nothing beats 1-on-1 Dutch lessons with a great teacher.
There is no 'best way' to learn a language - it depends on your needs, level and budget. If you can't afford to take lessons, you can use a free app such as Duolingo to build your vocabulary. And to improve your listening skills, you can watch TV and listen to podcasts in Dutch. But to learn how to actually speak a language, you need to talk to a native speaker on a regular basis and receive accurate feedback so that you improve. If you want to make fast progress, it's best to take 1-on-1 lessons that are tailored to your needs by an experienced online Dutch teacher.
