Hi, I’m Liz. I’m a native English speaker and I have spent most of my life living and working in London, England.
I have a CELTA qualification for teaching English as a foreign language, and I also have a BA in English Literature from a central London university.
My teaching experience has been predominately online in 1-2-1 lessons, but I also have experience teaching in person to groups of children at language camp in the UK.
I plan bespoke lessons specifically to meet your needs. During the trial, or initial lesson I will spend time getting to know you and thinking about how I can best help you to meet your goals. This may be by working together on a structured curriculum, or perhaps you need to focus on your speaking skills so you can improve your confidence.
I use a variety of materials, including course books, online exercises and news articles.
I have also helped some of my students to prepare for their English Literature exams, here in the UK, or internationally. I particularly enjoy these lessons as I am passionate about literature.
I would love to help you on your language journey so I hope to meet you soon.See Reviews From Students
Hi, I'm Cara. I'm originally from the UK but have lived in France for 15 years. I've been teaching English for around 10 years, online and offline. I'm passionate about helping people thrive, not just survive in English-speaking countries by improving their listening skills.
So, if you're struggling to understand fast-talking native speakers without subtitles, whether in real life or when watching movies, I can help. For the last 6 years I've developed my own special method to help you improve your English listening skills with movies and TV shows.
Improving your listening skills helps you not only understand people better, but also makes you sound more natural in English. When you understand better what people are saying to you, you can pick up expressions that native speakers really use so that you can fit in better with them.
Here's how my lessons work (my classes are 30 minutes long with pre-class tasks to complete):

My name is Ali and I am an IELTS teacher. Teaching IELTS is actually my passion. I have been teaching English since 2002, but in 2009 I decided to focus exclusively on IELTS and since then I have just trained my students for this exam. During these years, I have endeavoured to help my students develop the necessary English language skills to be successful in their future business and particularly university setting. I am also proud of providing the best teaching methods for my students to help them get their IELTS score as soon as possible.
The students who have received disappointing IELTS results in previous attempts and didn't know why they got such a low score or others who couldn't afford to fail the IELTS test (it's expensive!) can come to me for consultation before taking the official IELTS exam.See Reviews From Students
Hello, I'm teacher Kelly and I'm a native English speaker from the UK.
I completed my TEFL in Asia and have over 5 years teaching experience with kids and adults from a combination of working in schools and online. My students tell me I have a clear and neutral accent that is easy to understand. They often comment on my relaxed and fun energy in my lessons.
When working with children I create vibrant and interactive lessons that include phonics, writing & reading. After each class a worksheet or activity can be given. When working with adults I also like to create fun lessons. Learning grammar is stressful and I like to focus more on conversation and simplified explanations. We learn about phrasal verbs, idioms and lots of other things a new learner should need to be able to understand and speak like a native.
As a teacher I believe it is important to make the students feel comfortable and give them a safe space to learn and not to be afraid to make mistakes. Learning a new language is not easy it takes time and dedication, I understand this and try to build the students confidence as much as possible.
Thank you for checking out my profile and I hope to see you soon in class! 😊See Reviews From Students
Hello dear future student!
I am pleased to welcome you on my page. I am currently living in Costa Rica, travelling is a very important part of my life. I know how hard it can be to learn a new language as I have been learning Italian and Hebrew. I am here to make this fun for you, with me you will leave every class feeling inspired and wanting more. I want all my students to feel confident with the topic they decide to learn, every day you will learn more and retain more. Let’s go at your rythme and have fun!
looking forward to meeting you,
I'm Ryan, I am a Canadian Certified English TESOL instructor. I am a Native English speaker, currently living in Mexico. I have taught all ages and abilities. In the past I have taught at an English school but now I am mostly teaching online, which I enjoy al lot! I love teaching English to beginners, intermediates and I also really look forward to helping advanced leaners prep for IELTS, CELPIP or even preparing you for your next job interview.
In my classes we will work on conversation skills, grammar, phrasal verbs, idioms, and new vocabulary, also we can review any current English school work you have. I know that I was talking a little fast in my video, but I promise to slow down in our class as my students ability dictates.
Everyone learns in different ways, I'll quickly find out what's the best way to teach to you and we'll have fun doing it. Whether you are a beginner or need some help with your conversation skills I will be happy to assist you!See Reviews From Students
My name is Vicki and I am a CELTA-qualified English teacher for speakers of other languages. CELTA is the teaching certificate issued by Cambridge University. I have taught all levels of English and all ages. I currently teach 100 percent online and I highly enjoy getting to know people from all over the world. I also have an academic background (Ph.D. in Social and Political Thought). My time at university has helped developed my English to an advanced level.
As a language learner myself (German), I know how important it is to enjoy the learning process and to feel safe to make mistakes. I am a very friendly and encouraging teacher. My lessons are also very student-centered as the more opportunities a student has to practice the language, the better they get at it. I strive to adapt my lessons to the specific needs, wants, and interests of the student I am teaching to make the lessons more enjoyable and relevant for them. I also use videos, news articles, and audio clips in my lessons.
While I am comfortable teaching a wide range of students, particular areas that I specialize in are as follows:
Academic English: i.e. learning appropriate vocabulary, practicing writing academic essays, and undertaking reading comprehension tasks.
Business English: i.e. preparing a presentation and writing an effective email.
English for Tour Guides: such as tour-related vocabulary and phrasing.
English for Teenagers: I have courses specifically designed for teenagers and their interests. Levels B1 - C1.
Conversational English; many students have a strong understanding of English grammar and vocabulary, but struggle to hold everyday conversations with native speakers. Conversational classes focus on improving students' abilities to speak more naturally and spontaneously about a range of topics.
In addition to language lessons, I can also help with editing texts such as scripts and emails.
Please note, that while I can understand a lot of German my spoken level is B1 and my lessons are normally held completely in English.
Hopefully I will speak to you soon,

Hello everyone and welcome to my profile! My name is Leon and I'm here to teach you English. I myself am a polyglot and so I have been through the journey of learning a foreign language many times. In addition to English, I also know French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Persian, Turkish and Armenian, and currently learning German and Georgian. If you know one of those languages, I will be happy to explain things in your language from time to time.
Whenever students ask me about the secret to how I have learnt so many languages, I remind them of how they themselves learnt their native tongue as a child. The fact is that there is no secret recipe - humans are born with the capacity to learn any human language that exists. The difference now, once an individual has grown up, is that one feels "scared" to make mistakes, unlike a child, and that an adult also has "less time" to prioritise language learning/acquisition, because of other responsibilities.
I support my students in learning English in accordance with their own preferences. Whether it is a grammar-focused approach, a preference for language immersion or task-based learning, we will discuss the approach that suits your language learning needs most.See Reviews From Students
Hello, I'm Edward, I’m British and I teach English with a BBC English accent. I have a degree in Political Science, am TEFL certified and have taught English for 6 years, specialising in Business English, Advanced English and Cambridge Exams.
Business English - I have 14 years of business experience, working in marketing, public relations, corporate communications, sales and export roles. I can help you to develop key communication skills, including language for emails, phone & video calls, meetings, presentations, negotiations, and promotions. I can help you edit and prepare important documents, and can incorporate high-quality discussions of business strategy into our classes.
Advanced English - I am well-read and an experienced professional writer, public speaker and debater. It is a pleasure to discuss and teach the finer points of language, metaphors and idiomatic structures, literature and complex topics. Cambridge Exams - I have 3 years dedicated experience in preparing students for IELTS, FCE (B2), CAE (C1) and CPE (C2). I have a proven record of success in analysing student strengths and weaknesses, identifying effective studies to bridge learning gaps, teaching best practice technique and preparing students to achieve best possible results in their Cambridge exams.See Reviews From Students
My introduction to teaching was a volunteering project in a French high school, then it became my profession when I started working in a language school in Szeged, Hungary. In the language school I held business English and everyday English courses for all levels, mostly teaching small groups of adults. Apart from that, I also held private Hungarian and French lessons through the school. Currently I am teaching online because I travel a lot, and working remotely allows me to keep doing what I love, from anywhere in the world.
When you become my student I will ask about your goals, assess your level, and recommend a course book based on your level and needs. In case you would only like to practice communication or wouldn't like to learn from a book, we can also simply talk and occassionally use some worksheets to make the lessons more varied and enjoyable. All my lessons are generally very communicative – I try to stay in the background and correct you when necessary, and guide you through the exercises instead of giving you the answers. From experience I know that real learning happens when you figure things out for yourself, and not when you are passively listening for your teacher's explanations.:)See Reviews From Students
Hi there! My name is Deborah. I’m a native English speaker from the US, and I create customized lessons based on your level, goals, interests and learning style.
My #1 priority is to provide a warm, supportive atmosphere where you’ll feel comfortable to speak. I think that a communicative approach is key to language learning. I’ll be sure to give you plenty of opportunities to practice speaking, so that you’ll be able to find your words and express yourself confidently outside of class.
My other top priority is to learn, over time, how to craft sessions that will be both fun and productive for you. Language learning should be pleasantly challenging. If the material is too easy, you’ll be bored. If it’s too hard, you’ll be overwhelmed. It’s my job to find “just the right amount of challenge” for you. I want you to enjoy and look forward to our sessions. After all, the “best” approach for you will be the one that you choose to stick with for the long-term.
Thank you for reviewing my profile. If you feel that we may be a good tutor/learner fit, please feel free to book a trial session. During our first (trial) session, we’ll get to know each other, and we’ll work together to decide on an approach that will work well for you.
My background & experience:
Please note : I work from my paid Zoom account, which has no time limits. You don’t have to have a Zoom account. Just click the link, then agree to open the session!See Reviews From Students
My name is Mark, I'm TEFL- certified and I specialize in creating a comfortable and fun English learning environment.
I have been helping adults ( ages 18 +) online for over 10 years, during which time, I have also studied Spanish, Russian and Chinese.
I understand the difficulties of learning a new language and attempt to address these issues directly in my sessions.
I believe that learning is a by-product of good teaching.
I understand that teaching is not 1 method for all situations, and requires adjusting and variety throughout the process.
I want to offer fun and excitement to the learning environment and process. Helping you become a confident and fluid speaker, requires consistency of instruction along with diligence in practice. Together we can create an amazing learning environment that will allow you to achieve your learning goals.
I can assist you with TOEFL, IELTS, CELPIP, LSAT, SAT, PTE, and other EXAM preps. I'm able to help you simply focus on conversational English, expressing yourself in everyday situations. The formal language of business English can be difficult terrain to traverse, but I can guide you through the process. Many students have just wanted to improve grammar and vocabulary, session work along with between session work (homework). We can tackle consistency and fluency.
Feel free to have a trial lesson to see how I can help you be the English speaker you want to become,See Reviews From Students
Hi. I am Chris and I’m a qualified and experienced teacher of English as a foreign language and a native speaker of British English. I have taken more than 6000 lessons online and have many regular students. I am very patient and passionate about the English language. My relaxed lesson style will boost your confidence, make you feel less nervous and enable you to improve your English skills by helping you sound more natural.
My lessons will help you achieve your goal of being fluent, reaching proficiency level, reducing your accent, sounding more natural and improving your vocabulary through stimulating conversation on a wide range of topics. Exam technique is as important as ability when taking IELTS or Cambridge exams, I can help you raise your score. My lesson style is relaxed and informal, I will help you feel more confident and less nervous when speaking. I allow students to speak as much as possible but I also listen very attentively for grammar and pronunciation errors and will help you to reduce mistakes through clear explanation and example sentences.
I am flexible about the content of the lessons and try to structure them according to YOUR needs. I will initially assess your level, and focus on reducing weaknesses so that you can see a clear improvement in your level and self confidence. Hi! I’m Sue and I live in beautiful South Africa.
I’m a TEFL certified English teacher and I specialise in business English, conversational fluency and pronunciation. I also have about 35 years’ experience in the business sector, including 25 years in education.
Do you lack confidence when you have to speak English? Do you wish you sounded more fluent? Do you have to keep repeating yourself because people can’t understand you? Frustrating, isn’t it?!
I want to help you achieve your English-speaking goals, and to feel natural when you speak English. As you become more fluent, you will feel more confident. I want you to feel just like a native English speaker. That’s my goal for you!
I’ve taught hundreds of students – just like you – from beginners to advanced.
I’m a fun and patient teacher and my classroom is a relaxed, safe space where it’s okay to make lots of mistakes, because that is how you learn.
My passion is helping people who struggle with pronunciation – those tricky English sounds that are so difficult to say. Every language has unique challenges and I really believe my techniques can help you. Let me work with you to transform your English!
Learning happens in a fun and positive environment and when we experience language in different ways. I like to use a variety of learning methods: videos, podcasts, interesting texts, role-plays, real-life conversations and simulations. There’ll be lots of opportunities to practice – to build your speaking skills and your confidence. I’ll teach you tips and techniques that you can use, and I’ll give you practical tools to help you improve your English fluency.
Our trial lesson will be mostly conversational, where we’ll talk about your English goals and what you want to achieve. Then, I’ll create a tailored learning plan for you. We’ll focus on YOUR unique learning needs, and I’ll work with you to help you achieve your goals.
I believe in patient correction and constructive feedback – so that you know what you’re doing well, and areas you should work on.

I’m excited to go on this journey with you. Let me help you speak naturally, sound professional, and feel confident.

I gained my CELTA in 2020 and I have been teaching English ever since, sometimes on-site at St George's International, a North London College, but more often, online, at home, which I really enjoy!
My method; I like to keep to a lesson plan, but only because that gives a class a good structure, making it simpler for students to understand the small part of the language we are focusing on. I keep it interesting by using various tools, like videos, audio tracks, images and games etc.
Aside from teaching I'm an actress and voiceover artist, - I have a strong interest in film and the arts, and occasionally it's fun reading dialogues or using stories/ scripts with students.
I also travelled quite a lot in my twenties, and love to learn about different cultures and interests, - I'm interested in what you want from the English language.See Reviews From Students
Hello! I'm Julian. I am from South Africa. I have a 420-hour TEFL Diploma (Level 5) which is equivalent to a CELTA-qualification. I specialise in Business English, Job Interview Preparation and Conversational Fluency. I focus on helping you communicate more effectively and confidently in the workplace and in life. Many of my students have shared their success stories after having classes with me. Some of these stories include being able to do a presentation in English for the first time, participating effectively in business meetings, closing a deal in a negotiation and passing a job interview.
What makes me different is that I only select the most common and natural English phrases and word combinations (collocations) to learn and practice in my classes. In this way, you are able to become an effective communicator and speak confidently in a variety of situations. Most of these phrases can be used in different situations.See Reviews From Students
Hi there! My name is Alessia and I'm a certified English teacher from Canada. I've been living in Lucca, Italy for the past seven years and I love it!
I've been teaching for over seven years now. In 2016 I completed my TESOL certificate and shortly thereafter began teaching at a private elementary school. I've worked with people ages 5-55 and my favourite thing about teaching is getting to know people from different cultures and learning all about their customs and traditions. My second favourite thing is seeing my students succeed and achieve their language goals!
My approach to teaching depends on the individual needs of my students. Each lesson is customized to the unique goals of my students. That being said, you can definitely expect homework in my classes! For conversation lessons, we'll focus on using media to expand your vocabulary and spend the entire lesson speaking about different topics. For those who need a grammar brush-up, we'll use various books to support your learning but still focus on conversation to help you fully integrate what you've just learned!
I also have experience preparing students for the IELTS exam for both immigration and academic purposes. I absolutely love the IELTS exam in that it provides students with a real challenge and something to aspire to. I have a wide variety of resources that I use to help you prepare which cover everything from grammar and vocabulary to the actual "how-to's" of writing the exam. If you are interested in working with me on exam prep, I suggest AT LEAST 3-6 months to prepare properly for the exam since you'll not only need to improve your language skills but also your exam-taking skills.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you and supporting you to reach your language goals!See Reviews From Students

Hello! I'm Josh and I'm a TEFL certified native British English speaker from Cambridge in the United Kingdom. I've been working as an English teacher for more than 6 years, and I'm passionate about language learning and teaching. Over the years, I've studied German and Spanish, which has given me an insight into what it's like to learn a foreign language. Also, throughout my teaching career, I've had the privilege of meeting many people from around the world. This experience has allowed me to learn about different cultures, helping me to become a more considerate and open-minded person. Personally, I believe that having this attitude is one of my greatest strengths as a teacher.
What am I like as a teacher?
I'm a disciplined individual with a strong attention to detail. My belief is that everyone has the potential to improve, so I aim to help my students reach their goals by being both encouraging and supportive. Whatever your reason(s) for learning English, my goal is to provide you with the ideal environment for improving your language skills. Also, I will do my best to be adaptable by adjusting my teaching style and the focus of our lessons to reflect your needs. Please feel free to let me know how we can make our lessons as effective and productive as possible for you!
What's the style of my lessons?
We'll use a variety of different materials to ensure that you have a well balanced and engaging English learning experience. To help you build confidence and improve your proficiency, we'll use resources such as news articles, stories, other texts and videos. Regarding my teaching style, my priority is to make sure that you feel relaxed by being encouraging and supportive. Furthermore, I'll focus on helping you to correct your mistakes and speak English like a native speaker, which will improve the quality of your English communication. Rest assured that you have no need to be afraid of making mistakes because this will help you to improve your English more quickly. Finally, if you know how you learn best and want to discuss that with me, I can take your specific learning preferences into account when teaching you, which I know will make our lessons more enjoyable. All you have to do is let me know!See Reviews From Students

1-on-1 lessons are perhaps the best way to improve speaking skills, and because of this many students use LanguaTalk to learn to speak English fluently. That said, some students have other, more specific goals. Tell your tutor what your goals are and they'll tailor the lessons to your needs. Most tutors can help with any of the following:
New to LanguaTalk? You'll have one credit for a free trial. Most tutors offer a trial for free. If they do not, they’ll offer a trial session at a discount compared to their usual hourly rate.
Trial sessions last 30 minutes. They allow you to assess whether the tutor is a good fit for you, and get a feel for learning online. The tutor will assess your level and aim to understand your needs and interests so that they can customise any lessons you decide to take. You'll be encouraged to speak in English as much as possible, but of course you can speak in English too!
After your session, if you feel that the tutor isn’t quite right for you, you can simply book a trial with someone else.
Most of the English tutors on our site are able to teach students of all levels. When you click on a tutor's profile you'll see if certain levels are not supported. For example, certain tutors cannot teach complete beginners.
Likewise, you can also see on the tutor's profile whether they're suitable for all ages. Online English lessons are sometimes taken to support school/college studies. Usually, the tutor will be able to customise the lessons to follow the material and topics covered in the student's exams. Please note that as per our Terms & Conditions, students who are under 18 must get permission from a legal guardian before booking.
Lessons are taught 1-on-1 so that you receive your tutor’s full attention and can make fast progress. Communicating via video call, you’ll be able to talk to your tutor and share learning materials as if you were in the same room.
The tutors vary in terms of their teaching methods, resources, experiences, and personalities. So we suggest you look at several profiles to choose the best tutor for you. Whichever English tutor you pick, they'll aim to tailor the lessons to your individual needs.
The vast majority of students take 55-minute lessons. But some tutors also provide the option of 30-minute lessons. If they do, you’ll see this noted on their profile (below their pricing and above the ‘Buy Lessons’ button).
55-minute lessons are recommended for most students. In general, we only suggest considering 30-minute lessons if they’re for your child, or you have an intermediate level and only want conversation practice.
We want students to have an exceptional learning experience on LanguaTalk, so we only accept the very best tutor applications. Though we consider qualifications and experience, we place equal value on communication skills, personality and reviews from previous students. Almost all tutors are native speakers of the language they teach, and we require that they can speak English too.
Each tutor is different - they have different backgrounds, strengths, teaching methods and personalities. So we suggest you browse several profiles to find the right English tutor for you.
The beauty of taking lessons online is that you can learn anytime, anywhere. To see tutors who are likely to fit your weekly schedule, use the availability filter at the top. Then when you see a tutor you like, check their profile calendar to make sure their time slots work for you. Some tutors have limited availability as they already have lots of students.
Our booking system is designed to be incredibly easy to use. You can see tutors' available hours in your local time zone. If you choose to book lessons with a tutor, you'll be able to purchase them one at a time, or buy in bulk with a volume discount. You can pay securely by card on our website.
You can manually add bookings to your personal calendar, or if you use Google calendar, you can add bookings automatically with our syncing feature. You'll also be able to receive email reminders to help ensure you don't forget to turn up.
You can reschedule or cancel lessons in a couple of clicks. Note that this can only be done up to 24 hours before the lesson time. This rule is required to protect tutors, who lose income when lessons are cancelled at the last minute.
Sometimes students feel uncertain about learning English online because they think it’ll be totally different to learning face-to-face. But usually when they try it, they find that the experience is almost the same and they often build a strong relationship with their tutor.
Once you start a video call with your chosen English tutor online, you’ll be able to communicate with them as if you were in the same room. They’ll usually also share learning resources with you (using Google Docs, YouTube etc.) and you’ll be able to collaborate in real-time.
According to the Foreign Service Institute, if you already speak English, English is one of the easiest languages to learn. The exact amount of time it will take you to become fluent will depend on many factors, such as your current level, your knowledge of similar languages, your capacity to learn, how you study, and how intensively you study. Some will be able to go from beginner to conversational fluency within a couple of months through intensive study. Others will take longer. Combining 1-on-1 lessons with an online English tutor with regular self-study is an effective way to learn English fast.
If you live in the US or Europe, face-to-face English lessons may cost anywhere between $20 and $60 (USD) per hour. Online tutoring tends to be cheaper than face-to-face because the tutor doesn't need to travel to you. An online English tutor could cost anywhere from $13 to $50 per hour, but be aware that very cheap tutors may lack experience. On LanguaTalk, English tutors typically charge between $14 and $40 per hour.
Of course, learning 1-on-1 with an experienced English tutor is not the cheapest way to learn; you could learn via a free app instead. But if you're serious about learning, nothing beats 1-on-1 English lessons with a great teacher.
There is no 'best way' to learn a language - it depends on your needs, level and budget. If you can't afford to take lessons, you can use a free app such as Duolingo to build your vocabulary. And to improve your listening skills, you can watch TV and listen to podcasts in English. But to learn how to actually speak a language, you need to talk to a native speaker on a regular basis and receive accurate feedback so that you improve. If you want to make fast progress, it's best to take 1-on-1 lessons that are tailored to your needs by an experienced online English teacher.Arabic tutors | Chinese tutors | Dutch tutors | French tutors | German tutors | Greek tutors | Italian tutors | Japanese tutors | Korean tutors | Portuguese tutors | Romanian tutors | Russian tutors | Spanish tutors | Swedish tutors | Thai tutors
