Corrections and suggestions will be provided in the chat box. (this is not a grammar class though so explanations will be kept brief to focus on the conversation and improving fluency.

Given my background as a Communications Director at a global company I'm also happy to include business topics if that's of interest to you. 

My classes are NOT for beginners. As it is a conversation class, you must be able to hold at least a basic conversation (A2 level or higher)

Every student has a different learning pace and different needs and interests. Since I have a Zoom Business account, you won't need to reconnect to the meeting during our  lessons (55 minutes).

Some facts about me: I was born in Spain and raised in Germany, so Spanish and German are my native languages, but I also speak English (C1 level), French (B2 level), and a little bit of Portuguese. Over the last 30 years I have taught languages (English, German, and Spanish) to children and adults of all ages and levels. I've helped several students to pass different language exams.

Hi! I am Larissa, I am originally from Frankfurt, Germany. Right now, I am living in Baja California, Mexico. Since 2019, I've been teaching German as a foreign language via video chat and in face-to-face sessions. My students come from all over the world, from various age groups and have different skill levels. I have been a teacher for 16 years and I have taught different subjects and languages, such as English, German, Spanish, world history, and geography.  My teaching approach depends on the student's level and interests. That being said, I believe that conversation is an important part of learning a language, and so I often focus on conversation or question-answer sessions in my classes. I started my work at a French High School. My main task there was to prepare the advanced learners for their oral exams. Later I continued at a French Engineering University teaching the students to apply their German skills to specific topics linked to their studies and future jobs. I also helped them in the preparations of their year abroad in a German speaking country. After this experience I switched to instructing beginners at a French Middle School and started my work online with beginners as well as advanced learners.

There are many ways to teach a lesson. I'm a lover of a varied approach whenever applicable. I can honestly say that I will always do my very best to find suitable methods in order to facilitate comprehension and learning.

Over the course of a lesson, I might use audio files, videos, transcripts, books, worksheets or custom-tailored exercises that I feel are best suited for that particular student. Likewise, I will also train conversation - practical or otherwise.

I highly value being kind, patient, modest and encouraging. I always strive to create an environment that fosters a positive feeling. An inviting atmosphere is essential for learning anything at all. I welcome mistakes students make because it's normal to do so, plus that is one of the best ways to learn something properly.

My ultimate goal for you, as my student, is to enjoy yourself while learning and progressing!

Students are different, and all have their own individual needs and expectations. I see myself as someone who is guiding them along their chosen path. Occasionally prompting them to discover (the beauty of) a concept here and there they might have overlooked otherwise. Maybe the most important aspect for me is the atmosphere in which you can be at ease and speak freely without any fear of making mistakes. Mistakes are not only a part of the process, but have to be made and will help your understanding. Our class is a safe space where you can express yourself exactly as you do now and ask all the questions you may have.

More about me:
I initially started teaching German after a one-year journey through South America which I undertook after graduating from university. During these travels I learned Spanish and subsequently got the task of offering tuition to students at university who were struggling with reading academic texts in German. Thereafter I started teaching all German levels to different groups at university and also to students individually and have been doing so for over 10 years now, in-person and online. I've also been leading translation groups and lecturing on other language topics like language philosophy. 
Living and teaching German in other countries for several years gave me deeper insight both into learning languages and into my own mother tongue and during that time I naturally adopted the role of a bridge between cultures and languages.
