My name is Vicki and I am a CELTA-qualified English teacher for speakers of other languages. CELTA is the teaching certificate issued by Cambridge University. I specialize in Business and Academic English but I also teach general English classes as well. I have been teaching both group and private lessons for about two and a half years. I have an academic background (a Ph.D. in Social and Political Thought and a Bachelor of Arts with First Class Honours in Art History and Political Studies). My time at university has developed my understanding and use of the English language to an advanced level. I have taught students from all over the world and of all ages. I am a New Zealander living in Germany, and as a language learner myself (German and Maori), I know how important it is to enjoy the learning process and to feel safe to make mistakes. Our goal is for you to practice your recall of English words and phrases in real time.  You will also practice expressing your way "around" an idea when you can't easily remember the English word or phrase,  

During the lesson, I put all these corrections and suggestions into a Quizlet deck of digital flashcards that you can study later, so that all that feedback goes into your long-term memory.  We also review these flashcards at the start of lessons.  

To provide you with additional review material, I offer to record our conversation lessons.  

In all these lessons, translation from your native language is used carefully.   Memorizing translations, or using it too much, can stop your ability to start thinking in English.

I practice a teaching method called oral agility whereby all grammar and vocabulary are taught through speaking exercises. This means modelling words, repeating phrases and conversation exercises.
