안녕하세요! Hello, everyone. I am Juyoung, a Korean Tutor. I was born, raised and educated in Seoul, the capital of South Korea. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Korean Language and literature and completed the Korean Teacher Education Program. I also have 6 years of teaching experience.
My experience living in India, Laos, Egypt, and Belgium as a foreigner has given me a deep understanding of different cultures and people. Language is a product of its culture, so learning a language requires an understanding of each other's differences based on our shared humanity.
Many of my students have been with me for years, and witnessing their progress brings me immense joy.
Most of the students who started studying with me became more fluent and accurate Korean speakers. During the lesson, I successfully encourage students to use Korean from an early stage on. My teaching style helps students improve their conversational Korean and speak naturally. I will teach you expressions and phrases to sound like a native speaker.
I understand that every student is different and learns at their own pace. As a teacher, it is my job to find the best solution to help you improve.
Are you a complete beginner? That's okay! Let's start with the basics, such as correct pronunciation and conversational Korean skills. I'll help you develop the confidence you need to communicate effectively in Korean.
If you already know the alphabet, I can help you take your Korean to the next level. I use a variety of teaching methods and resources to make learning Korean fun and engaging.

I tried two previous online Korean tutors before I found 선생님 주영. Prior to searching for a tutor, I had been studying Korean for around 6 months, and I struggled to find a tutor who matched my current level of learning. While the other two tutors were very knowledgable and kind, neither were able to meet me where I was at in my learning journey, and I found myself sitting through lessons of material I had already covered. 선생님 주영 was immediately able to match my level of learning, while also challenging me to reach a new level. Even if we cover a topic I already studied, 선생님 주영 quickly moves through it, focusing primarily on speaking practice, which is one of the main things I love about her classes. While it feels daunting to speak in Korean for almost the entire lesson, it pushes me out of my comfort zone and forces my brain to think and respond in Korean language patterns. It can feel completely embarrassing to try to speak a foreign language to a native speaker, but 선생님 주영 immediately puts me at ease. Her warm and kind personality make conversation easy, and I never feel embarrassed when I make mistakes (which is all the time). We laugh a lot during class, and it's truly a comfortable and fun learning environment. I love the first 15 minutes of class when we talk about our weekend - not only is it great speaking practice, but it's also practical application instead of prompted textbook scripts. 선생님 주영 also provides an ample amount of homework after each lesson which really helps with reviewing newly learned grammar points. I can't recommend 선생님 주영 enough. If you've been struggling to find a tutor who is knowledgeable, creates a comfortable and fun learning environment, and also pushes you to step out of your comfort zone, look no further!

I love my lessons with Juyoung. I struggle so much with self criticism and being afraid to speak/make mistakes. But she helps me laugh at myself and makes the lessons so much fun.

I started lessons with Juyoung before my wedding and meeting my Korean in-laws and she was wonderful. I was so stressed and tense from my previous experiences with my Korean lessons but she helped the lessons go so quickly. She got me out of a fear space and helped me to actually try and start speaking. It's a slow process but I signed up for more lessons after my wedding so I can keep working on my Korean until we travel there to spend time with my in-laws. I've appreciated her energy and her positivity so much. It radiates even over a Zoom call and she's great about giving assignments to help you keep on track. It's truly learning that's tailored to what you need as a student.

진짜 재미있는 수업이였어요. 주영 선생님은 정말 경딜성 있고 친절한 사람이에요. 오늘은 제가 많이 단어들 하고 문법을 배웠어요. 감사합니다 선생님! 메리 크리스마스! Juyoung is such a kind and understanding teacher who spends the time to work through problems with you in class. The lessons we have really push me to practice my Korean and although it's hard to speak in (mostly) Korean for an hour, I feel like it's getting a bit easier and less embarrassing to do so, even when I make mistakes.
