Tom is a great tutor. He came up with really inventive ways to help make the language stick. Within 10 lessons I have been able to have multiple interactions in specific contexts in Swedish without having to rely on a word of English!

I am so grateful for Tom. He has all the qualities of an effective and amazing teacher. I wanted to learn how to speak Swedish better to my elderly grandparents on my last trip to see them as there was a language barrier most of my life. I shared this with Tom and he helped me make it happen. He actually cares deeply, he finds your strengths and works with them, he is patient and understanding and he knows what he is doing! Tom is a really fun teacher that pays attention to what your specific needs are for learning the language (e.g. for work, travel etc) and tailors the learning to it. He comes up with fun and creative ways to learn (for example vocab bingo, talking about your hobbies and life) that are engaging and challenging. I love that he is really encouraging (especially as I am usually hard in myself about how quickly or slowly I pick up a new topic or remember previous topics). I feel motivated to push myself when he encourages me and I always look forward to my next lesson after Iโve had one! Tom writes notes as we go in google docs which are exceedingly helpful during the lesson, however I sometimes find them hard to look back through after some time as I canโt quite recall why a specific sentence was included etc. I am finding this is easily resolved by taking his advice to do writing practice after my lessons. This allows me to start to ask more questions which Tom never fails to answer when I ask him (he always encourages questions and will frequently give me little mini lessons for small things I struggle with at any point of the lesson which is always really helpful). I feel I can direct the learning to what I want to learn but also can rely on Tom to direct what is best to learn next. When first looking at Tomโs profile I was a little worried that he might push me a little harder than I was capable of but since I wanted to learn quickly I decided to give it a go! And I can say with certainty, yes he does push you and challenge you but in a very supportive and encouraging way.
