Hello everyone!
My name is Simos and I live in the beautiful island of Crete. I was born and raised in Athens, the capital of Greece. I have completed my Bachelor's degree in Greek Philology, specialized in Linguistics and I hold a master's degree in teaching Greek as a second language. I've recently embarked on a new chapter by commencing my Ph.D. journey. This pursuit is driven by my commitment to advancing my understanding of language acquisition and pedagogy, with the ultimate goal of contributing valuable insights to the field. Patience and calmness are my main traits, which help me in teaching. I love hiking, motorcycle rides and my brown labrador, Rocket.
I have 3 years of teaching experience with foreign students and 5 years of experience with local students. I have worked as a teacher in the Greek Counsil of Refugees, helping adult refugees to learn the language and the Greek society. I am familiar with online platforms and tools. My master's degree has provided me essential skills for teaching, such as modern ways of teaching, e-books and lesson plans for every type of student.I like to use the communicative approach in teaching, focusing on language use. My main goal is to design the lessons according to my students needs, so they can be fun and effective at the same time. We are going to interact with authentic texts that involve everyday subjects, such as dialogues, articles, poems and novels so we can add new vocabulary and explain grammar stractures. Greek videos and songs will be widely used to help you improve listening skills, as well as short conversations related with everyday topics. Lessons will be mainly in Greek, regardless of your level, exposing you to situations where you need to speak the language.
Subjects like Greek history, literature, music, tradition are used during the lesson. I strongly believe those who try to learn the language, should also get in touch with the Greek culture. By doing this, students begin to understand the Greek way of thinking and develop a greater connection with the language.

Simos is very patient and positive. Throughout the lesson he uses simple sentences and explains mostly in Greek. He can sense when I completely understand. He shares resources: films, music, activities, which helps me develop the languages. I'm very happy with my lessons.

I like the way Simos helps guide me to new vocabulary. If there's a new word, he doesn't just give the translation, but instead uses vocabulary I might already know to help me figure out the meaning. He's a great teacher and a lot of fun.

I find Simos to be very friendly and supportive. His calm and encouraging approach allows me to use my limited Greek knowledge. He has provided me with additional sources to develop the language and learn more about the culture.

I've been taking lessons with Simos for about six weeks now, and I have to say, he's fantastic! I always have a blast during our sessions and genuinely look forward to them. We chat in Greek almost all the time—like 98% of the time! It can be a bit tough, but it really helps me learn. What I love most is how he pays attention to what I enjoy and weaves that into our lessons. It makes everything feel so much more personal and fun! Highly recommended.
