Meditation has been shown to help people deal with pain. Increasing awareness of the present moment, it decreases stress hormones and the resulting pain. It has also been shown to reduce opioid use. In a 2014 meta-analysis, 20 percent of adults in higher-income countries suffer from chronic pain.
