It could be heard in Maryland, Washington, and Virginia. First…the government said nothing. Then it was a DOD-authorized sonic boom. Then four F-16 chase planes flying to intercept an unauthorized plane in DC air space, which later crashed in southwestern Virginia. Southwestern Virginia? That’s a good distance from DC.
