Description: Welcome to Pell City, Alabama, "Denture Capital of the World!"(according to George). While we could only substantiate the denture capital claim from one post on jalopyjournal.com, we are going with it. Pell City was founded in 1890 by railroad investors and is one of two county seats in St. Claire County. The town nearly disappeared after the Panic of 1893, but was saved when Sumter Cogswell started the Pell City Manufacturing Company in 1902. The textile mill proved to be a boon to the local economy and spurred its growth through much of the twentieth century. The mill closed in 2006 and t...
