Description: Christian baptism derives its significance from the administration of a very visible, literal act in or by ordinary water. As we read Romans 6, we see that living as a Christian is possible only in vital union with the crucified and risen Lord Jesus Christ. The visible instrument of this union is baptism (Cf. Romans 6:3). Typically, baptism is memorialized with a visible certificate. Again, our baptism is a visible, tactile, dateable act. For the Apostle Paul, baptism marks union with Christ.
