很久很久以前，天上有十个太阳。地球上非常的炎热。因为没有下雨，地上非常的干燥。森林里的树都死了。地上的庄稼也死了。老百姓没有食物吃，他们的生活很痛苦。有一个叫做后羿的年轻人。他很勇敢，也很聪明。他拿起弓箭射下来九个太阳。天上只剩下了一个太阳。从此以后，地球上就没有那么热了。为了赞扬后裔射日，天上的玉帝给了后羿一瓶长生不老药。后裔有一个既温柔又善良的妻子。她的名字叫嫦娥。后羿把长生不老药交给他的妻子嫦娥保管。有一个名叫蓬蒙的坏人知道了这件事。他很想吃这个长生不老药。他想把后羿的长生不老药偷走。有一天，他知道后羿不在家。于是他偷偷地跑到后羿的家里。他准备去偷嫦娥保管的那个长生不老药。嫦娥发现了他，但是蓬蒙特别坏。蓬蒙准备抢走长生不老药。为了不让坏人把长生不老药抢走，嫦娥只好把长生不老药吃了。嫦娥吃完药后，就飞到月亮上去了。傍晚，后羿回到家知道了这件事。他感到非常的伤心，因为他很爱他的妻子嫦娥。农历八月十五的那一天晚上，后羿在院子里看着月亮。月亮又大又圆。突然，他看到了嫦娥在月亮上跳舞。于是他赶紧把嫦娥最爱吃的月饼和水果拿出来摆在外面的桌子上。老百姓知道以后，也都在这一天在院子里摆上月饼和水果纪念嫦娥。从那以后，吃月饼和赏月就成为了中秋节最重要的传统。
