Assuming no prior knowledge of their work, this lecture will introduce key insights from the devout Canadian layman Marshall McLuhan (1911 – 1980) and the American Jesuit priest Walter Ong (1912 – 2003) and indicate their continuing relevance for how we read and respond to the world.
