Description: In the Vedic tradition, there are three gunas, or qualities, that are said to pervade all of creation: sattva, rajas, and tamas. Each guna has its own characteristic energy and tendency, and they are in constant flux, influencing each other and everything they touch.
The gunas can be thought of as a spectrum, with sattva at one extreme, tamas at the other, and rajas in the middle. Sattva is the quality of light, purity, and goodness; rajas is the quality of activity, passion, and change; and tamas is the quality of darkness, inertia, and ignorance.
