Description: India (MNN) — We’re nearing the one-year anniversary since violence broke out in Manipur, India.
It began as ethnic clashes over economic benefits between the Meitei and minority Kuki people. But soon, the clashes spiraled into violent attacks targeting tribal Kukis — most of whom are Christian.
In early May 2023, Meitei extremists in Manipur burned 250 churches, and over 160 people died in the conflict.
Today, Manipur still looks like a guerrilla war zone.
