Description: I grew up in a small town on the Central Coast of California. There were no references to queerness, queer history, or queer culture in the media when I was growing up and formulating gender and sexuality. There was definitely a void of such discussions in my hometown. This environment presented many difficulties, but most of all, it made it difficult for my young queer self to embrace my whole being.
