Description: Earlier this week, the Supreme Court of India stayed certain provisions of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025.
Among the provisions stayed are the one requiring a person intending to create a Waqf, to prove that he had been practising Islam for five years. It also paused the provision granting District Collectors the power to determine the status of a disputed waqf property, and capped the non-Muslim representation in Waqf boards.
At the same time, it has upheld the deletion of waqf-by-users, another contentious issue flagged by the petitioners.
