Nigeria is the largest aquaculture fish producer in sub-Saharan Africa, accounting for 52 percent of the total farmed fish production in the region. Yet, Nigeria has a 2 million metric tonne (2.2 U.S. tons) deficit, needing 3.2 million metric tonnes (3.5 U.S. tons) of fish annually, while current production stands at 1.2 million tonnes (1.3 million U.S. tons).
