When the U.S. established relations with China decades ago, they did so by adopting the One-China policy, which formerly recognized Taiwan as part of China, if not actually in practice. Since Taiwan is the only place in the world that can manufacture the ICs that run A.I., the U.S. has exhibited a schizophrenic foreign policy; saying one thing to China but promising privately to protect Taiwan, and all 3 nations simply overlook the dichotomy.
