Abstract: This research brief examines strategies for fostering work engagement in public-sector hospitals despite the presence of organizational politics. Drawing on empirical research and practical experience, we identify two critical factors that effectively counterbalance the negative impact of workplace politics on employee engagement: public service motivation (PSM) and psychological safety climate. PSM—the intrinsic desire to serve the public good—provides healthcare professionals with purpose that transcends organizational dynamics, while psychological safety creates environments where authentic contribution remains possible despite political pressures.
