When we give thanks we are acknowledging the God behind our blessing, the God behind any good thing in our life (gift of life, joy, peace). It doesn't matter whether our blessings are small or big, God is behind it (James 1:17, John 3:27)
There are times we need to look back in order not to forget the benefit of the LORD , we need to go down memory lane (Psalm 103:1-8). Count your blessings, name them one by one and it will surprise you what the LORD has done. We need to make a comparison between where we are now and where we used to be.
