Description: In Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the Westdale Mall had its grand opening just in time for the 1979 Christmas season. It instantly became a popular hangout. Many high school kids got their first job at the mall, including 18-year-old Michelle Martinko. Tragically, Michelle was fatally stabbed in the Westdale Mall parking lot on December 19th, 1979. The violent incident dissolved all sense of safety at the mall, making it feel like the most dangerous place in Cedar Rapids. Her killer would remain elusive for nearly 40 years.
