Description: In December 2020, a report by the University of Toronto’s Citizen Lab titled “Running in Circles: Uncovering the Clients of Cyberespionage Firm Circles” showed how telecom surveillance company, Circles, had deployed its platforms across Africa, helping state security departments to snoop on communications of opposition politicians, journalists, and protestors. Botswana, Nigeria, Zambia, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Equatorial Guinea, Morocco and Zambia were all were all named in the report.
