Description: The Battle of Gettysburg can trace its origins back to September of 1862 when Robert E Lee audaciously lead his Army of Northern Virginia on an invasion of the North. Since taking command in June of 1862, Lee had beaten back Major General George B McClellan's Army of the Potomac and secured the Confederate capital of Richmond during the peninsula campaign.
