Hi there! My name is Alessia and I'm a certified English teacher from Canada. I've been living in Lucca, Italy for the past seven years and I love it!
I've been teaching for over seven years now. In 2016 I completed my TESOL certificate and shortly thereafter began teaching at a private elementary school. I've worked with people ages 5-55 and my favourite thing about teaching is getting to know people from different cultures and learning all about their customs and traditions. My second favourite thing is seeing my students succeed and achieve their language goals!
My approach to teaching depends on the individual needs of my students. Each lesson is customized to the unique goals of my students. That being said, you can definitely expect homework in my classes! For conversation lessons, we'll focus on using media to expand your vocabulary and spend the entire lesson speaking about different topics. For those who need a grammar brush-up, we'll use various books to support your learning but still focus on conversation to help you fully integrate what you've just learned!
I also have experience preparing students for the IELTS exam for both immigration and academic purposes. I absolutely love the IELTS exam in that it provides students with a real challenge and something to aspire to. I have a wide variety of resources that I use to help you prepare which cover everything from grammar and vocabulary to the actual "how-to's" of writing the exam. If you are interested in working with me on exam prep, I suggest AT LEAST 3-6 months to prepare properly for the exam since you'll not only need to improve your language skills but also your exam-taking skills.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you and supporting you to reach your language goals!

Hi there! I'm a Native English Teacher from the Unites Sates, with over 12 years of experience teaching students from all over the world. Not only a teacher, but a lover of languages, I speak 3 languages fluently and 5 languages in total. I grew up speaking English and Spanish, and after completing my studies, I decided to move to Hong Kong, where I learned Cantonese (southern Chinese) and taught English for 9 years.
In Hong Kong I taught conversational English as well as English in theater, with an emphasis on natural flowing speech and emotional expression within the dialogues, erasing those old monotone/ robotic style of speaking habits a lot of students picked up in school (no disrespect to the schools! They’ve served their purpose!) I've also taught poetry for students to balance the very technical, Left-brain dominant grammar based lesson with a more expressive, Right-brain dominant and playful form like music and poetry, and theater.
One thing that sets me apart from most English teachers is that I know what it’s like first hand to work and live in a foreign language environment as I've also performed staged dramas in Cantonese! I certainly do know what it’s like to be on stage with all eyes on you, a bunch of native speakers listening to me, who has just learned to speak it a few years ago only! It’s nerve racking at first, but then once you do it, it’s one of the most liberating things you could ever do for your speaking confidence. You really see that communication goes way beyond words! In this era more than ever, communication is key.
To me, learning a language is like a combination between singing a song, practicing a sport, and getting a new passport! It truly opens up a whole new world of opportunity and self expression. Being able to express yourself calmly, confidently, accurately and most important – creatively, this is the gift I wish to give all of my students.

Hi, I’m Jocelyn. I’m an Architecture student from Bristol, and I go to Cardiff University. I was previously volunteering as an English teacher at a Bilingual Academy, on my year out living abroad in Seville, and I also completed an Architecture Internship when I was there. For the last two years, I’ve been tutoring students of all ages. These have ranged from pupils preparing for curriculum exams, to learning English as their second language.
I have always made sure to be sympathetic to students' situations, and am flexible with lesson lengths and times. I make every effort to accommodate your needs and targets as a student, to ensure we approach the lesson in a way that works best for you. My aim is to facilitate your learning development with interactive lessons that you can fit into your schedule, without making you feel overloaded.
Having a family background in education has inspired me to gain my TEFL qualification, which has given me the knowledge to be able to teach a range of lessons within the subject of English. These include: Business English for a workplace setting, conversational English, grammar and preparing for curriculum exams, to name just a few.
During lessons, lots of speaking is key, as I thrive on being able to build a good relationship with my students. I’m young and enthusiastic, and always welcome questions. If this approach to learning feels like it could work for you, or you’d like to discuss your objectives in more detail, please feel free to book a trial session. I look forward to meeting you.

Effective professional English classes using conversation, articles, videos and exercises.
I originally started teaching in a school and companies to individuals and groups in 2010 whilst living in Brazil. In 2014, I returned to the UK and focused on teaching online.
A trial class will enable us to discuss your expectations, teaching methods and material. From this moment onwards, I will provide you with a class focused on achieving your goals in a focused, professional and pleasant environment.
My career before teaching has included law, slaes, IT and telecommunication across 3 continents. Born in London to a British mother and Italian father, I am married to a Brazilian and have been studying Portuguese for many years.
I enjoy meeting people, experiencing other cultures and making a positive difference in people's lives.
I take pride in my work and am focused on providing classes that will keep you coming back for more.

Our research indicates that the average cost for private English lessons in Burnaby is between $25-$35 per hour. Online tutors do not need to travel to you and often live in countries with a lower cost of living, so the hourly cost is generally lower.
There are several options for learning English in Burnaby, whether you live in the city center or the suburbs. You can use an app or software program to learn basic vocabulary and grammar. You can also join group lessons with English tutors in Burnaby if you prefer a social learning experience. Alternatively, you can take one-on-one lessons with a private tutor, which is more expensive but may be the most effective option if you have a good tutor. Learning online may make private tutors a more affordable choice. Prices vary based on the tutor, but are generally cheaper than in-person lessons in Burnaby.
Sometimes students tell us that they're not sure about learning English online because they think it’ll be completely different to learning face-to-face. But usually when they try it, they find that the experience is almost the same and they often build a solid relationship with their tutor.
Once you start a video call with your chosen tutor, you’ll be able to communicate with them as if you were in the same room. The tutor will typically also share learning resources with you (newspaper articles, YouTube, etc.) and you’ll be able to collaborate in real-time using a tool like Google Docs or Dropbox Paper.
Some tutors on LanguaTalk may offer local lessons, but most only provide online lessons as it is more convenient and allows them to work from home. In addition, many tutors do not teach English in Burnaby as they live elsewhere in the world. If you book a lesson with a tutor, you should assume that it will be online unless the tutor specifically states that they offer in-person lessons in Burnaby.
If you prefer not to learn online with tutor, LanguaTalk may not be the right choice for you. Instead, you can search for tutor, we recommend giving online learning a try as it is often as good as in-person learning and allows you to access better tutors at a lower cost. You can also book a free trial session to see if it is right for you.
If you're new to LanguaTalk, we'll provide you with a credit for a free trial lesson. Many, but not all, tutors offer these for free. If they do not, the price will be reduced to 30 percent of their full lesson price, so you can still try a session at a minimal cost.
Trial lessons are 30 minutes long. They allow you to evaluate whether the tutor is a good fit for you and experience learning online. The tutor will assess your level and try to understand your needs and interests so they can customize any lessons you decide to take. You will be encouraged to speak in English as much as possible, but you can also speak in English if needed.
If, after your trial lesson, you don't feel that the tutor is right for you, you can schedule a trial lesson with another tutor for 30 percent of their full lesson price.
Lessons are conducted one-on-one, allowing you to receive personalized attention from your tutor. lessons are conducted via video call, and you can use any device with a stable internet connection and a webcam to join the lesson.
Your tutor will create a customized lesson plan based on your goals, learning style, and current level. During the lesson, you will have the opportunity to speak, listen, and interact with your tutor in real-time. Your tutor may also provide you with additional materials, such as audio recordings or written exercises, to help you practice and consolidate your learning.
On LanguaTalk, you can find highly qualified tutors who offer personalized 1-on-1 English lessons based on your goals and learning style. Here's how it works:
1 - Search for a tutor who meets your needs by reviewing videos, ratings, prices, and availability.
2 - Schedule a trial lesson. Many tutors offer a 30-minute trial for free, while others offer a discounted price.
3 - Take your personalized lessons with your chosen tutor via video call. Or, you can try a different tutor if you prefer.
You don't need to enter any payment information to book a free trial session. Please only book a trial if you are interested in taking lessons. Prices vary by tutor, and you can use filters to find a tutor who fits your budget. You can pay for each lesson individually or purchase multiple lessons at a discounted rate (view a tutor's profile to see their pricing options).
We're confident you'll enjoy learning with LanguaTalk. We are trusted by students around the world because of our transparency. We ask students to rate each lesson, and we display these ratings on the tutor's profile.
99.8% of lesson ratings are 5 stars. This is because, unlike other platforms, we only accept the top 10% of tutor applications.
To see our full list of frequently asked questions or get assistance from our friendly team, click the 'Help' button in the bottom-right. You can also watch videos of students sharing their experiences with LanguaTalk below.
Most students take 55-minute lessons. However, some tutors also offer the option of 30-minute lessons. If this is available, it will be noted on their profile (below their pricing and above the 'Buy Lessons' button).
In general, we recommend 55-minute lessons for most students. You may want to consider 30-minute lessons only if you have an intermediate level and only want conversation practice, or if the lesson is for a child.
The advantage of taking lessons online is that you can learn at any time and from any location. When you select a tutor, check their calendar to ensure that they have available slots that fit your schedule. Some tutors may have limited availability due to high demand from other students.
