Hi, I’m Jocelyn. I’m an Architecture student from Bristol, and I go to Cardiff University. I was previously volunteering as an English teacher at a Bilingual Academy, on my year out living abroad in Seville, and I also completed an Architecture Internship when I was there. For the last two years, I’ve been tutoring students of all ages. These have ranged from pupils preparing for curriculum exams, to learning English as their second language.
I have always made sure to be sympathetic to students' situations, and am flexible with lesson lengths and times. I make every effort to accommodate your needs and targets as a student, to ensure we approach the lesson in a way that works best for you. My aim is to facilitate your learning development with interactive lessons that you can fit into your schedule, without making you feel overloaded.
Having a family background in education has inspired me to gain my TEFL qualification, which has given me the knowledge to be able to teach a range of lessons within the subject of English. These include: Business English for a workplace setting, conversational English, grammar and preparing for curriculum exams, to name just a few.
During lessons, lots of speaking is key, as I thrive on being able to build a good relationship with my students. I’m young and enthusiastic, and always welcome questions. If this approach to learning feels like it could work for you, or you’d like to discuss your objectives in more detail, please feel free to book a trial session. I look forward to meeting you.

Me as a Teacher
I am a professional English teacher with more than 30 years of teaching experience mainly in US - NYC and UK - East Midlands. Initially as a college English and Maths teacher, these days I teach online. My learners are students who tend to improve their school grades, students who are preparing for international exams, business professionals who work or intend to work for international companies or people who learn English for pleasure. For every individual I usually prepare some tasks for a free talk, grammar practice or a role-play situation with targeting vocabulary and phrases. There is always a summary, a given feedback at the end of the class which helps my learners to make progress highly visible.
My lessons & teaching style
I believe that every learner is different and teaching them should be personalized. I like to apply different teaching methods to see which one would be the most productive. Of course, I need to meet student several times to be able to find out his/her learning style and be able to create a teaching strategy. In my experience, an individual approach, a personalized topic and mutual effort definitely bring some fruit.

Dear students, greetings!
I've had my degree in emergency medical care for an amazing 16 years, and I find teaching this topic to be very fulfilling. I started my journey as an English teacher for a non-profit organization about ten years ago. I worked hard to obtain my TEFL certificate in order to improve my teaching abilities.

With great anticipation, I look forward to working with each of you to achieve your learning goals. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. Together, we will create an enjoyable and rewarding learning experience.

Do you need to improve your English? I have tried-and-tested methods to help ESL students become more fluent and confident. I have a degree in education, a TEFL/TESL certificate, and an Online Teaching certificate with lots of experience. I have also authored English textbooks and study guides for children in the primary school.
My approach is holistic. I use interesting topics, pronunciation drills and language videos to help develop fluency AND accuracy. I am patient and very encouraging as I believe students learn best when they feel relaxed. I've had great results with many students aiming to get to a new English level or maintain a high level. With advanced students, I like to discuss complex topics and deal with work-related issues.
I have lived in South Africa my whole life but have been fortunate to travel to many countries and experience many different cultures and of course, delicious dishes. I enjoy the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. I also love keeping up to date with current affairs including sport, politics, and arts and culture. Apart from being a dedicated teacher, I am also a wife, a mother and proud dog owner! I look forward to meeting you and being part of your language learning journey.

I specialise in Business English providing you with the language points you need to express yourself effectively in meetings, give fantastic presentations, conduct job interviews as well as other functions such as negotiation, describing charts and forecasting.

Classes with me are fun and dynamic and above all, you will see rapid progress with your English because you will be constantly speaking.
And so, if you are looking for a teacher to help you perfect your English then try a class. You won’t be disappointed. See you soon.

I gained my CELTA in 2020 and I have been teaching English ever since, sometimes on-site at St George's International, a North London College, but more often, online, at home, which I really enjoy!
My method; I like to keep to a lesson plan, but only because that gives a class a good structure, making it simpler for students to understand the small part of the language we are focusing on. I keep it interesting by using various tools, like videos, audio tracks, images and games etc.
Aside from teaching I'm an actress and voiceover artist, - I have a strong interest in film and the arts, and occasionally it's fun reading dialogues or using stories/ scripts with students.
I also travelled quite a lot in my twenties, and love to learn about different cultures and interests, - I'm interested in what you want from the English language.

See Reviews From StudentsSometimes students tell us that they're not sure about learning English online because they think it’ll be completely different to learning face-to-face. But usually when they try it, they find that the experience is almost the same and they often build a solid relationship with their tutor.
Once you start a video call with your chosen tutor, you’ll be able to communicate with them as if you were in the same room. The tutor will typically also share learning resources with you (newspaper articles, YouTube, etc.) and you’ll be able to collaborate in real-time using a tool like Google Docs or Dropbox Paper.
If you're really not keen on learning with a teacher via video call, LanguaTalk isn't going to be the right choice for you. You can instead search for a tutor on a local service listing website, or put up an advert in your local area. We do encourage you to give it a try learning online though - you've got nothing to lose as you can book a free trial session. Most people find the experience is as good as learning face-to-face, but with the benefit of having access to better tutors at a lower cost.
Our research suggests that the average cost for private English lessons in Laguna Beach is somewhere between $25-$35 per hour. As online tutors do not need to travel to you and they often live in countries with a lower cost of living, the hourly cost tends to be significantly lower.
Whether you live in the city centre or the suburbs of Laguna Beach, there are many options for learning English. You could use an app or a software program if you're looking to pick up basic vocabulary and learn some grammar rules. Alternatively, you could attend group lessons with English tutors in Laguna Beach if you're keen for a social experience. Or, you could take 1-on-1 lessons with a private tutor. This isn't the cheapest way to learn a language but it's possibly the most effective, assuming you have a good tutor. Learning online rather than face-to-face may make private tutors a more affordable option. Check the tutor profiles above to see how much it's likely to cost. Prices vary a lot depending on the tutor, but will usually be cheaper than learning with an English tutor in Laguna Beach, face-to-face.
Tutors on LanguaTalk sometimes provide lessons locally, but most only provide online lessons as it is more convenient and allows them to work from home. In addition, most tutors are not teaching English in Laguna Beach because they're living elsewhere in the world. If you decide to book with a tutor, you should assume that they can only teach you online.
The vast majority of students take 55-minute lessons. But some tutors also provide the option of 30-minute lessons. If they do, you’ll see this noted on their profile (below their pricing and above the ‘Buy Lessons’ button).
55-minute lessons are recommended for most students. In general, we only suggest considering 30-minute lessons if they’re for your child, or you have an intermediate level and only want conversation practice.
New to LanguaTalk? We'll give you a credit for a free trial session. Many, but not all, tutors offer these for free. If they do not, the price will be just 30 percent of their full lesson price, so you can still try a session at minimal cost.
Trial sessions last 30 minutes. They allow you to assess whether the tutor is a good fit for you, and get a feel for learning online. The tutor will assess your level and aim to understand your needs and interests so that they can customise any lessons you decide to take. You'll be encouraged to speak in English as much as possible, but of course you can speak in English too!
If, after your trial session, you don't feel that the tutor is quite right for you, you can book a trial with another tutor for just 30 percent of their full lesson price.
