Hi there! I'm a Native English Teacher from the Unites Sates, with over 12 years of experience teaching students from all over the world. Not only a teacher, but a lover of languages, I speak 3 languages fluently and 5 languages in total. I grew up speaking English and Spanish, and after completing my studies, I decided to move to Hong Kong, where I learned Cantonese (southern Chinese) and taught English for 9 years.
In Hong Kong I taught conversational English as well as English in theater, with an emphasis on natural flowing speech and emotional expression within the dialogues, erasing those old monotone/ robotic style of speaking habits a lot of students picked up in school (no disrespect to the schools! Theyâve served their purpose!) I've also taught poetry for students to balance the very technical, Left-brain dominant grammar based lesson with a more expressive, Right-brain dominant and playful form like music and poetry, and theater.
One thing that sets me apart from most English teachers is that I know what itâs like first hand to work and live in a foreign language environment as I've also performed staged dramas in Cantonese! I certainly do know what itâs like to be on stage with all eyes on you, a bunch of native speakers listening to me, who has just learned to speak it a few years ago only! Itâs nerve racking at first, but then once you do it, itâs one of the most liberating things you could ever do for your speaking confidence. You really see that communication goes way beyond words! In this era more than ever, communication is key.Â
To me, learning a language is like a combination between singing a song, practicing a sport, and getting a new passport! It truly opens up a whole new world of opportunity and self expression. Being able to express yourself calmly, confidently, accurately and most important â creatively, this is the gift I wish to give all of my students.

Hi, Iâm Rob, a native English speaking teacher from Canada currently living in Prague, Czech Republic, with 20 years of ESL and university teaching experience. I work with intermediate to advanced students (B1-C2), with most of my students interested in conversation/communication English (focusing on speaking and listening skills, including fluency, vocabulary, pronunciation and intonation, and grammar), but Iâm also happy to work with students on writing and reading.
My teaching style is relaxed, friendly, and engagingâI try to make every lesson an interesting and enjoyable one. But Iâm also professional, prepared, organized, and reliable. I rarely use a textbookâsome students mainly enjoy having conversation, but I also often use videos and texts of various kinds and even songs to provide a wide variety of topics, new vocabulary, varieties of listening practice, etc., and lessons are individually designed to each studentâs level, interests, and requirements.
Iâve taught English in Vietnam and Czech Republic since 2016 and also have 12 years of Canadian university teaching experience in cultural history and in architecture/design. Iâm also a writer-artist-designer. I received a professional architecture degree in 1989 and the Trinity College Level 5 English teaching certification in 2019. Iâm a native English speaker with an easy-to-understand, neutral Canadian accent.
For the last 2 years, most of my English teaching has been online, though I also enjoy teaching non-virtually. I primarily use and recommend the Zoom platform for online teaching for its reliability, video/sound quality, and support for varieties of teaching resources. Students can use Zoom from their browser or by downloading the app on your computer or phone/tablet (but use of the app on your computer is recommended for the best quality).
So, if this sounds like what youâre looking for, I invite you to sign up for a trial lesson with me, and weâll take it from there âŚ

Hi, I am Harriet, a native English speaker and qualified teacher with over 20 years teaching experience.
The lessons are structured around you as an individual and start with finding out what you want to learn or improve and why. We will then agree a plan of interesting and challenging activities to help you meet your goals. I teach general conversation skills, including increasing confidence and learning new vocabulary, and Business English. I have helped many students successfully prepare for job interviews or to take on new roles. I can also help you prepare for language tests and focus on pronunciation.
The lessons will be lively and varied, using a range of methods, materials and contexts. We will regularly review your progress and goals and I will suggest activities outside of class to help you practice what you have learnt. I am experienced in teaching beginners to advanced level students from teenagers to adults. I have Masters degrees in Creative Writing and Psychology and so am able to use and teach both creative and academic language skills.Â
I live in Hove in southeast England and also spend a lot of time in Lisbon, Portugal. I am trying to learn Portuguese and finding it challenging but fun.  I love meeting new people and finding out about them and what motivates them. I enjoy reading, eating out, drinking coffee, walking, exploring new places, TV and movies and talking to people. I look forward to meeting you and taking our first lesson together!
See Reviews From StudentsSometimes students tell us that they're not sure about learning English online because they think itâll be completely different to learning face-to-face. But usually when they try it, they find that the experience is almost the same and they often build a solid relationship with their tutor.
Once you start a video call with your chosen tutor, youâll be able to communicate with them as if you were in the same room. The tutor will typically also share learning resources with you (newspaper articles, YouTube, etc.) and youâll be able to collaborate in real-time using a tool like Google Docs or Dropbox Paper.
If you're really not keen on learning with a teacher via video call, LanguaTalk isn't going to be the right choice for you. You can instead search for a tutor on a local service listing website, or put up an advert in your local area. We do encourage you to give it a try learning online though - you've got nothing to lose as you can book a free trial session. Most people find the experience is as good as learning face-to-face, but with the benefit of having access to better tutors at a lower cost.
Tutors on LanguaTalk sometimes provide lessons locally, but most only provide online lessons as it is more convenient and allows them to work from home. In addition, most tutors are not teaching English in Rochdale because they're living elsewhere in the world. If you decide to book with a tutor, you should assume that they can only teach you online.
Our research suggests that the average cost for private English lessons in Rochdale is somewhere between $25-$35 per hour. As online tutors do not need to travel to you and they often live in countries with a lower cost of living, the hourly cost tends to be significantly lower.
Whether you live in the city centre or the suburbs of Rochdale, there are many options for learning English. You could use an app or a software program if you're looking to pick up basic vocabulary and learn some grammar rules. Alternatively, you could attend group lessons with English tutors in Rochdale if you're keen for a social experience. Or, you could take 1-on-1 lessons with a private tutor. This isn't the cheapest way to learn a language but it's possibly the most effective, assuming you have a good tutor. Learning online rather than face-to-face may make private tutors a more affordable option. Check the tutor profiles above to see how much it's likely to cost. Prices vary a lot depending on the tutor, but will usually be cheaper than learning with an English tutor in Rochdale, face-to-face.
Lessons are taught 1-on-1 so that you receive your tutorâs full attention and can make fast progress. Communicating via video call, youâll be able to talk to your tutor and share learning materials as if you were in the same room.
The tutors vary in terms of their teaching methods, resources, experiences, and personalities. So we suggest you look at several profiles to choose the best tutor for you. Whichever English tutor you pick, they'll aim to tailor the lessons to your individual needs.
The beauty of taking lessons online is that you can learn anytime, anywhere. When you choose a tutor, just check their calendar to make sure that they have available times that fit your schedule. Some tutors have limited availability as they already have a lot of students.
New to LanguaTalk? We'll give you a credit for a free trial session. Many, but not all, tutors offer these for free. If they do not, the price will be just 30 percent of their full lesson price, so you can still try a session at minimal cost.
Trial sessions last 30 minutes. They allow you to assess whether the tutor is a good fit for you, and get a feel for learning online. The tutor will assess your level and aim to understand your needs and interests so that they can customise any lessons you decide to take. You'll be encouraged to speak in English as much as possible, but of course you can speak in English too!
If, after your trial session, you don't feel that the tutor is quite right for you, you can book a trial with another tutor for just 30 percent of their full lesson price.
The vast majority of students take 55-minute lessons. But some tutors also provide the option of 30-minute lessons. If they do, youâll see this noted on their profile (below their pricing and above the âBuy Lessonsâ button).
55-minute lessons are recommended for most students. In general, we only suggest considering 30-minute lessons if theyâre for your child, or you have an intermediate level and only want conversation practice.
On LanguaTalk, you can find exceptional tutors for 1-on-1 English lessons tailored to your goals and learning preferences. Hereâs how to try it for yourself:
1 - Find your ideal tutor by browsing videos, reviews, pricing and availability.
2 - Book a trial. Many tutors offer a 30-minute trial for free; others charge a discounted price.
3 - Take personalised lessons with your new tutor via video call. Or try someone else.
No card is required to book a free trial session. Please only book if you're considering taking lessons. Pricing varies by tutor and you can use the filter to find someone who fits your budget. You can pay one lesson at a time, or buy in bulk for a discount (open a tutor's profile to see their pricing options).
Weâre confident youâll love learning via LanguaTalk. We're trusted by students all over the world because we're transparent. We ask students to rate each lesson, and we display reviews on tutorsâ profiles.
99.8% of lesson ratings are 5 stars. Why? Because unlike other platforms, we accept only the top 10% of tutor applications.
