Hi, I’m Liz. I’m a native English speaker and I have spent most of my life living and working in London, England.

I have a CELTA qualification for teaching English as a foreign language, and I also have a BA in English Literature from a central London university.

My teaching experience has been predominately online in 1-2-1 lessons, but I also have experience teaching in person to groups of children at language camp in the UK.

I plan bespoke lessons specifically to meet your needs. During the trial, or initial lesson I will spend time getting to know you and thinking about how I can best help you to meet your goals. This may be by working together on a structured curriculum, or perhaps you need to focus on your speaking skills so you can improve your confidence.

I use a variety of materials, including course books, online exercises and news articles.

I have also helped some of my students to prepare for their English Literature exams, here in the UK, or internationally. I particularly enjoy these lessons as I am passionate about literature.

Hello! My name is Tim, I’m from England, and I’m a professional English teacher. I trained at International House in London where I gained the Cambridge CELTA qualification, and I’ve worked with students of all levels and of many different nationalities. I’m also a Spanish student (B2-C1 level) so I know how difficult it can be to learn a foreign language!

I use the ‘communicative approach’ to English teaching, which means that you will have lots of opportunities to practise your speaking skills in a relaxed environment and receive helpful feedback. During a lesson, you have many options; for example, you can follow a structured course (like in a language school), you can develop your speaking skills by having conversation classes (if your level is B1+) or I can help you to prepare for an exam such as IELTS. Depending on your goals, I will adapt to you because you are always the protagonist! What’s more, I know how important it is to learn grammar and vocabulary that you can use in the real world, and I also enjoy helping students to improve their pronunciation by exploring how the different sounds in English are produced. I use a variety of interesting materials (such as articles, audios, modern textbooks, and videos) and we can talk about any topic that is of interest to you.

My focus is helping intermediate and advanced students reach a C1/C2 level. I tend to focus on pronunciation, phrasal verbs, idioms, complex grammar and conditionals. My classes are completely conversation focused. I always have a plan for the lesson and I love talking about weird and wonderful things.

About me:

I’m Diana, a friendly and patient English teacher from the beautiful city of Cape Town currently living in Portugal. In 2017, I completed my TESOL and TEYLT trainings and since then I have worked with students from all around the world both in language schools and online. I have lived and taught English in 5 different countries (Spain, Portugal, Indonesia, Turkey and South Africa) to students of all levels (beginners to advanced). In 2021, I became certified to teach Ielts and have thus helped numerous students with  their exam preparations too.

I'm passionate about learning and teaching languages and have studied Portuguese, Spanish, German and Turkish. Through my own language studies, I have learnt that an active conversational approach is the best way to master a language! Some of my other passions include yoga, travel, food and art!:)

My lessons:

My approach to teaching depends a lot on the level and goals of the student. Each student is unique with different necessities so I don’t have a one size fits all proposition. Lessons are tailored to you and are adapted as you progress.Expect to receive a lot of feedback, corrections and if you would like, homework activities.

Hello! I'm Josh and I'm a TEFL certified native British English speaker from Cambridge in the United Kingdom. I've been working as an English teacher for more than 6 years, and I'm passionate about language learning and teaching. Over the years, I've studied German and Spanish, which has given me an insight into what it's like to learn a foreign language. Also, throughout my teaching career, I've had the privilege of meeting many people from around the world. This experience has allowed me to learn about different cultures, helping me to become a more considerate and open-minded person. We'll use a variety of different materials to ensure that you have a well balanced and engaging English learning experience. To help you build confidence and improve your proficiency, we can use resources such as news articles, stories, other texts and videos. Alternatively, we can focus on improving your skills through natural conversation; it’s up to you. 

Regarding my teaching style, my priority is to make sure that you feel relaxed by being encouraging and supportive. Furthermore, I'll focus on helping you to correct your mistakes and speak English like a native speaker, which will improve the quality of your English communication. Rest assured that you have no need to be afraid of making mistakes because this will help you to improve your English more quickly.

You will develop the ability to express opinions and support them through topic exercises like Would You Rather?  In this conversation practice, I'm your conversation partner, responding with comments and questions as a fluent speaker of US English does.   I also correct your grammar errors, suggest new natural vocabulary and expressions in the conversational context, provide pronunciation feedback, and generally tell you if something you say doesn't sound natural.   

Our goal is for you to practice your recall of English words and phrases in real time, but also for you to practice expressing your way "around" an idea when you can't easily recall the English word or phrase,  

During the lesson, I put all these corrections and suggestions into a Quizlet deck of digital flashcards that you can study later, so that all that feedback goes into your long-term memory. 

To provide you with additional review material, I offer to record our conversation lessons.
