You will develop the ability to express opinions and support them through topic exercises like Would You Rather?  In this conversation practice, I'm your conversation partner, responding with comments and questions as a fluent speaker of US English does.   I also correct your grammar errors, suggest new natural vocabulary and expressions in the conversational context, provide pronunciation feedback, and generally tell you if something you say doesn't sound natural.   

Our goal is for you to practice your recall of English words and phrases in real time, but also for you to practice expressing your way "around" an idea when you can't easily recall the English word or phrase,  

During the lesson, I put all these corrections and suggestions into a Quizlet deck of digital flashcards that you can study later, so that all that feedback goes into your long-term memory. 

To provide you with additional review material, I offer to record our conversation lessons.  

In all these lessons, translation from your native language is used carefully.   Translation can interfere with your ability to start thinking in English.

Hello from Los Angeles! My name is Sean and I am both a TEFL-certified English teacher, and a Lean Six Sigma-certified project manager with a business background in IT, analytics, and recruiting. I'm also a language learner just like you (Spanish B2 and German B1), so I know the joys and challenges of learning and improving a second language very well. What started as a volunteering project in a French high school became my profession when I got my first job as an English teacher in a language school in Hungary. I gained a lot of experience there, teaching business English and everyday English courses for all levels, mostly for small groups of adults. When I started travelling, I moved on to teaching online, giving 1-to-1 lessons to adults from all over the world. Currently I am living in Italy, and while I'm working for a local language school, I keep teaching online because I travel a lot, and working remotely allows me to continue doing what I love, from anywhere in the world.

I have a Master's degree in Teaching English and a level 5 TEFL certification. I have been teaching for more than five years now, from Hungarian to French to Italian schools, as well as having students from many other nationalities through online teaching.

When you become my student I will ask about your goals, assess your level, and recommend a course book based on your level and needs. In case you would only like to practice communication or wouldn't like to learn from a book, we can also simply talk and occassionally use some worksheets to make the lessons more varied and enjoyable. All my lessons are generally very communicative – I try to stay in the background and correct you when necessary, and guide you through the exercises instead of giving you the answers. From experience I know that real learning happens when you figure things out for yourself, and not when you are passively listening for your teacher's explanations.:)
