Finding French classes in Amsterdam that are both effective and affordable can be tricky. Classes are typically in groups, meaning you have limited opportunities to speak. On top of this, you’ll often find certain students dominate the conversation, or ask the teacher endless questions!
LanguaTalk offers a more convenient and effective alternative: 1-on-1 online French classes with experienced native tutors. You won’t find these tutors available for face-to-face French lessons in Amsterdam. LanguaTalk finds the best tutors from around the world. They offer conversational French classes at cheaper rates because they don’t have to travel to you and they often live in countries with a lower cost of living.
Probably you’re thinking: but are online classes really as effective as face-to-face? You can book a no obligation 30-minute trial session (for free with most tutors) and see for yourself. Classes take place via video call, allowing you to communicate with your tutor and share learning materials, as if you were in the same room. And you can book classes for whenever it suits you.
Below, you can filter to tutors who have availability that fits with your Amsterdam time zone. Then watch videos, check reviews, and book a trial session.
If you have questions, you can click the 'Help' button in the bottom right. There, you’ll find answers to every question imaginable, and the option of contacting our support team.

About me
Bonjour ! My name is Adeline & I'm a full-time French teacher. I also speak English fluently and a bit of Spanish. I live in France, my home country, and I like to do conversational classes to teach my language, and sometimes a bit of my culture, to foreigner students. If you want to know a little bit more about me, here are the things I'm passionate about: cooking, gardening, video games, nature, travels and other cultures. I also enjoy learning new things therefore do not hesitate to tell me everything about your very own interests :)
I love meeting new people and I really look forward talking with you soon!
My lessons
Whether you are here to learn French from scratch, or to improve that language, you've come to the right person. As I can speak English and Spanish, don't worry if your French is not completely fluent: we will work on it together. I learned my other languages while traveling so I'm very aware about the fact that the best way to learn a language is by practicing it everyday in casual conversations.
I usually like to start with a first conversation to evaluate your French level and your goals. We will then decide together what kind of class, duration and frequency best suits your needs, level and availability. Then I will adapt the way I speak and teach to your personal needs.
We will spend the majority of our time together having conversations in French and, if you want, I also can provide formal lessons with exercises & oral or written comprehension.

Bonjour !
My name is Céline. Teaching languages online has been my full-time activity for the last 4 years, which ensures punctuality, professionalism, and continuity.
I am a multifaceted teacher:
> I am casual and I put particular importance on teaching real language, i.e. we will approach all kinds of vocabulary in our classes using authentic material.
> I am business and corporate-oriented as my previous professional experiences in retail and recruitment allow me to help you to build your CV and train you for job interviews.
> I am structured when it comes to grammar. I do use lessons and exercises.
> I have a solid academic background related to languages and experience preparing people for official language exams such as DELF, TCF, etc.
> I organize French immersion programs in France to help my students deepen their knowledge of the culture and feel more confident talking with native speakers.
These are some comments actual students posted on my LinkedIn profile:
Marc, Chief of Strategy and Corp. Development: “Céline is knowledgeable about grammar and language formalities but also has a nice conversation and adapts well to your need as a student, making the class enjoyable and using technology in the right way."
Gozde, Data engineer: “Céline provides lots of learning material, documents, links, and videos. She is responsive and very well organized while it is fun to chat with her about real-world topics."
À bientôt !

Hi! My name is Simon and I am French.
You are beginner in French? Your level is intermediate? Advanced? You want to improve your fluency? You want to speak genuine French?
I have a special methodology for you. With more than 5 000 hours of teaching online, it has become clear what works best for you.
Here is an exemple of a methodology, that is adapted for each level and each student;
We study a grammar rule, and a vocabulary theme.
Then we do exercices to practice.
After this, we have an oral conversation and you have the opportunity to use the grammar rules and the vocabulary studied.
In the beginning of each lesson, we review words studied previously.
Besides, I can send homework, if you want to progress faster.
I will be happy to help you so you are welcome to book a lesson now!

Bonjour !
My name is Marina. I have been a French teacher for five years. I taught in Ireland, England, Spain, and Ecuador, with students of all ages and levels, and in settings both informal and formal. I'm new to LanguaTalk but I've been teaching French online for a year as well.
I offer different forms of teaching, depending on your level and preferred learning methods. For example, a beginner who needs structure might benefit from lessons from a written method that mixes grammar, vocabulary, and listening, speaking, reading and writing exercises, while a more advanced student would prefer us to focus on conversation.
Don't hesitate to book a trial session with me so we can get to know each other!

Bonjour !
Me llamo Marina.

Are you tired about the boring courses of the language schools?
Are you tired of learning only grammar rules without being able to formulate a single coherent sentence?
Are you looking for a more versatile method for learning French in a more confident way?
Are you looking for a teacher who gets immediately your point and knows exactly how to make you reach your goals as soon - and as quick as possible ?
Then you found him ! I am that teacher !
According to your level (starter or advanced), I adapt my method as following:
Starters : I use a particular book that helps you to work on all the aspects of the language at the same time (phonetics, grammar, vocabulary, reading) and helps structuring the courses
Advanced : I practice conversation with you about more or less complex subjects to increase your vocabulary and to correct the remaining imperfections
Of course, I always adapt my method to your individual situation
About me : I was born in Switzerland. My mother tongue is French, which I always speak with my relatives and my friends. I also speak Italian as I grew up in the Italian-speaking region of Switzerland (Ticino) and I still live there
I also speak English, a bit of Serbian and Russian
I am looking forward to seeing you, so please do select a time for a trial lesson
See you soon. A bientôt. A presto

Hello Everyone,
Languages are a passion of mine, I am currently working on language 5 and 6. Because I've been learning other languages I am very familiar with the difficulties my students can have and which methods are efficient.
My first objective is for my student to develop the skills to speak and understand French so that they can be independant consulting French content at home. My classes are very relaxed and I try to have a good time while I teach. My classes are tailored to each student's level.
I also do give a little bit of homework.

Hello ! My name is Charlotte, from France. Learning languages is a passion of mine, along with many others :-) I welcome everyone to come and learn with me; whatever your current level, I’ll be very happy to help you gain more fluency in French. I’m very patient and will provide a cheerful and safe environment where you can talk without any stress or fear of being judged. I try to stick to French as much as possible during the lessons in order to build up your confidence about being able to navigate through your new language.
I believe in helping you master French as it is spoken/written by actual French-speaking people, not textbooks. This means adapting the material and language level to the situation. Indeed, we don’t usually speak in daily life the way a journalist does on the news. And we don’t write a formal report as we would an email to a friend. So knowing your goals and why you are learning French is essential.
A bientôt !

Hello, how are you? My name is Sylvain, I'm 30 and from Belgium. I currently live in São Paulo, Brazil with my wife. I have a degree in management, but I've been working as a French teacher since I arrived in Brazil.
I did a university exchange in Chile, which helped me learn Spanish. I'm a curious person and I'm interested in almost every topic, but I particularly like talking about the economy, politics, technology and cultural differences between countries. After arriving in Brazil, an opportunity came up for me to work as a French teacher in a school for adults, where I worked for the first two years. After that, I decided to become self-employed and concentrate on one-to-one, in-company and online teaching. Today, I have students of all levels with different objectives (work, travel, pleasure, French language maintenance, diplomacy etc.) and I love it when they are satisfied and see themselves progressing. On top of that, I find it very interesting to be able to talk to people with different profiles, backgrounds and histories.
We will define the material to be used according to your specific needs. We'll work with a variety of materials such as:
-French language methods (Défi, Tout va bien, Alter Ego, etc.)
-Grammar/vocabulary books covering general themes or more specific to your objectives
-Recent articles, videos and audios on current topics
-Speaking or conversational exercices
-Test preparation
In addition, I try to stimulate the student to talk about different themes that are important to him/her.

Hello and welcome to my page!
My name is Célia, a native French teacher living abroad. I graduated with a master’s degree in French as a Foreign Language [teaching French to foreigners] in 2020 at the University of Paul-Valéry in Montpellier, and I became a certified DELF (A1–B2) corrector in 2022. I grew up in a small village near Montpellier, and I have lived in Northern Ireland, Germany, and Asia.
During my master’s degree, I learned how to create didactic units (lessons), design exams, and work with the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). I have been teaching French both online and on-site—in international schools and at the Alliance Française : from A1 to C2 levels, to learners of all ages: children, teenagers, and adults. Whether you’re preparing for an exam, looking to build your skills, or just want to practice speaking, I’ll be happy to help!
In our first class, I’ll ask you why you want to learn French, what your goals and interests are, what your current level is, and if you want to focus on any particular aspect of the language. This first conversation during our trial lesson helps me get a better idea of your level so I can prepare a plan tailored to your needs. The materials I use are varied: listening exercises from media sources, text comprehension (books, articles, excerpts), grammar practice, and more. All resources are adapted to your level and objectives. Most materials are provided, and I also share a lesson summary and homework after each session (-^▽^-).
My teaching method is mainly based on communicative and action-oriented approaches. I aim to involve learners actively in their learning process and help them speak as much French as possible, in a supportive and relaxed atmosphere. I know learning a new language isn’t always easy—mistakes are part of the process! I’m here to guide you, support you, and help you gain confidence step by step.
I’m passionate about languages and culture, and I love exchanging with people from all over the world. I’m sure we’ll find plenty of interesting topics to talk about while building your French skills!
À bientôt!
See Reviews From StudentsIf you prefer in-person learning over online classes, LanguaTalk might not be the best fit for your needs. For local classes, you can search through community boards or local service listing websites. However, we encourage you to explore the convenience and effectiveness of online classes. You can start with a free trial session to experience the benefits first-hand, such as access to a broader range of experienced teachers and potentially lower costs.
Many students initially have reservations about participating in online French classes, thinking the experience will be vastly different from in-person classes. However, they often discover that online classes can be just as engaging and effective. In an online French class, you’ll interact with your teacher and classmates as if you were all in the same room. The teacher may share resources (like articles or videos) and will collaborate with you in real-time using tools like Google Docs or Dropbox Paper, ensuring an interactive learning environment. The biggest benefit is convenience: there is no need to travel, and you can book lessons for when it suits you.
Whilst not always the case, French classes in Amsterdam are typically more expensive than online learning options. This is due to the costs associated with using a classroom, as well as travel time and expenses for teachers. Online classes, on the other hand, eliminate these overheads. Additionally, online instructors often live in countries with lower living costs, which can further reduce the price of online classes.
While some teachers on LanguaTalk may offer in-person conversational classes in their local area, the majority specialize in online teaching. This approach is more convenient for them, allowing flexibility and the comfort of working from home. Most teachers are not based in Amsterdam and are spread across the globe, so if you're looking for a class with LanguaTalk, you should anticipate an online learning experience.
On LanguaTalk, you can find exceptional tutors for 1-on-1 French lessons tailored to your goals and learning preferences. Here’s how to try it for yourself:
1 - Find your ideal tutor by browsing videos, reviews, pricing and availability.
2 - Book a trial. Many tutors offer a 30-minute trial for free; others charge a discounted price.
3 - Take personalised lessons with your new tutor via video call. Or try someone else.
No card is required to book a free trial session. Please only book if you're considering taking lessons. Pricing varies by tutor and you can use the filter to find someone who fits your budget. You can pay one lesson at a time, or buy in bulk for a discount (open a tutor's profile to see their pricing options).
We’re confident you’ll love learning via LanguaTalk. We're trusted by students all over the world because we're transparent. We ask students to rate each lesson, and we display reviews on tutors’ profiles.
99.8% of lesson ratings are 5 stars. Why? Because unlike other platforms, we accept only the top 10% of tutor applications.
To see our full FAQs or get help from our friendly team, click the 'Help' button in the bottom-right. You can also watch students talking about their experiences learning via LanguaTalk below.
New to LanguaTalk? We'll give you a credit for a free trial session. Many, but not all, tutor offer these for free. If they do not, the price will be just 30 percent of their full lesson price, so you can still try a session at minimal cost.
Trial sessions last 30 minutes. They allow you to assess whether the tutor is a good fit for you, and get a feel for learning online. The tutor will assess your level and aim to understand your needs and interests so that they can customise any lessons you decide to take. You'll be encouraged to speak in French as much as possible, but of course you can speak in English too!
If, after your trial session, you don't feel that the tutor is quite right for you, you can book a trial with another tutor for just 30 percent of their full lesson price.
The beauty of taking lessons online is that you can learn anytime, anywhere. When you choose a tutor, just check their calendar to make sure that they have available times that fit your schedule. Some tutor have limited availability as they already have a lot of students.
Lessons are taught 1-on-1 so that you receive your tutor’s full attention and can make fast progress. Communicating via video call, you’ll be able to talk to your tutor and share learning materials as if you were in the same room.
The tutors vary in terms of their teaching methods, resources, experiences, and personalities. So we suggest you look at several profiles to choose the best tutor for you. Whichever French tutor you pick, they'll aim to tailor the lessons to your individual needs.
The vast majority of students take 55-minute lessons. But some tutors also provide the option of 30-minute lessons. If they do, you’ll see this noted on their profile (below their pricing and above the ‘Buy Lessons’ button).
55-minute lessons are recommended for most students. In general, we only suggest considering 30-minute lessons if they’re for your child, or you have an intermediate level and only want conversation practice.
