Finding Italian classes in Lugano that are both effective and affordable can be tricky. Classes are typically in groups, meaning you have limited opportunities to speak. On top of this, you’ll often find certain students dominate the conversation, or ask the teacher endless questions!
LanguaTalk offers a more convenient and effective alternative: 1-on-1 online Italian classes with experienced native tutors. You won’t find these tutors available for face-to-face Italian lessons in Lugano. LanguaTalk finds the best tutors from around the world. They offer conversational Italian classes at cheaper rates because they don’t have to travel to you and they often live in countries with a lower cost of living.
Probably you’re thinking: but are online classes really as effective as face-to-face? You can book a no obligation 30-minute trial session (for free with most tutors) and see for yourself. Classes take place via video call, allowing you to communicate with your tutor and share learning materials, as if you were in the same room. And you can book classes for whenever it suits you.
Below, you can filter to tutors who have availability that fits with your Lugano time zone. Then watch videos, check reviews, and book a trial session.
If you have questions, you can click the 'Help' button in the bottom right. There, you’ll find answers to every question imaginable, and the option of contacting our support team.

My teaching approach relies on practice and immersion in the language, through conversation and consumption of multiple medias (music, movies, books).
My main focus is making my students able to communicate and interact as soon as possible, so that they can enjoy their language-learning journey instead of just studying and waiting for a long time before they can actually use what they learned.
During our encounters we will talk, write and practice, intertwining the formal learning of grammar and vocabulary with the more entertaining usage of each skill you will acquire.
No matter the level you begin with, from first basic interactions to formal high-level discussions, we can work together to improve your skills and proficiency.
I am skilled and professional, but also flexible and easy-going.
My interests are mainly of the nerd-ish persuasion, such as fantasy and sci-fi novels, movies and series, boardgames, RPGs and suchlike.
I love learning new things and discovering old classics with my friends and my students, and this is mainly why I got my degree in philosophy and studied many different topics on my own.

About me — My name’s Filippo. I’m a native speaker of Italian and live in Rome. I hold the DITALS I certificate, i.e., the license for the Teaching of Italian as a Foreign Language issued by the University for Foreigners of Siena. I can also speak English and am very fond of British English phonology. I have two degrees, one in philosophy and the other in religious studies, and taught in secondary schools in Rome for 21 years. I mainly speak standard Italian or, as linguists would say, “Tuscan Italian as spoken by Roman citizens”, i.e., the Italian language as historically spoken in Florence, without its peculiar local features.
My lessons (a broad overview) — If you’re already attending an Italian language course or are a self-taught student, I'll be your go-to person for any further explanations and corrections, as complement to your personal journey to learning Italian. I can also provide topic-focused speaking classes on topics of your choice or mutual agreement, as well as offering help for exams preparation for language certificates of all levels (A1 – C2). If, on the contrary, you're looking for more structured classes as part of a broader and comprehensive Italian language course, I'll be very happy to guide you and provide you with all the necessary relevant materials.
My topic-focused speaking classes (a specific example) — At latest one day before class, I'll send you a list of key words and expressions that will help you prepare for the topic of conversation. We’ll always start our lessons by describing, analyzing and contrasting visual inputs (images and photos) in order to develop your communication skills. We will also look at one or two texts on the topic in order to enrich the specific vocabulary in use and the conversation itself. Infographics, as well as quotes from some personalities who have expressed their view on the topic, are also integral parts of the lessons. During the conversation I'll assess your oral production (pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar) and you'll receive my feedback to help you progress in this area.

My name is Marzia and I am a native Italian language teacher! Are you interested in learning Italian to travel to Italy, to learn more about the Italian culture, or to connect with your Italian roots? Whatever your reason, I’d be happy to help you!
I have been teaching online for more than five years and I am passionate about sharing my love for my language with my students. I teach students of all ages and levels.
Lessons are based on the needs of my students. Some students prefer the traditional grammar approach, while others want to focus on conversation from the very first lesson. Regardless, my approach is communicative to enable my students to comfortably and confidently speak Italian since I believe that the purpose of a language is communication!
I use authentic materials including newspapers, magazines and listening exercises. This helps my students in their language journey since our lessons are more interesting.
If you would like to become more comfortable speaking Italian, I can help you! I know from personal experience that language learning takes perseverance and motivation and am ready to help you stay motivated! Learning while having fun is the key to success!
I would love to meet you and talk about your Italian language goals during a trial lesson!
A presto!

Ciao! I like to think that every student of mine was a challenge in a peculiar way. I have worked with European students abroad, retired professionals, University students in Asia, company employees and teenagers: every time I have found the best way to have fun both, taking advantage of any opportunity to understand my language and my culture!
I'm currently working as an online tutor with beginners, mainly from English speaking countries, who are generally not familiar with the language learning process. I usually help them to get some confidence in facing basic conversations as tourists in the country. I like to engage a fun conversation about different topics like my country's culture, Italian modern literature, art and cinema history due to my solid background in these disciplines. I am also a very curious person, keen to explore new topics, so much that I had eventually supported my students'interests through language practice (for example: reading Italian sport magazines together or watching videos about Italian cuisine).
I really believe that having fun teaching is the first cause for having fun learning.

With over a decade of experience, I've had the pleasure of teaching Italian to passionate learners from all around the world. From Tokyo to Moscow, to my time at the prestigious "Istituto Venezia" in enchanting Venice, I've refined my expertise in delivering exceptional Italian classes for both beginners and advanced learners.
My teaching approach revolves around fostering communication and immersing you in real-life situations. We won't simply focus on memorizing words; instead, we'll dive into authentic conversations and help you conquer the question of "what do I say in this situation?"
If you're starting from scratch, fret not! My teaching approach ensures that you won't be thrown into speaking Italian right away. Instead, we'll embark on a journey where you'll gradually build a solid foundation in the language, developing your listening and reading skills.
In my lessons, I prioritize creating a grammar-light environment while emphasizing immersion and conversation. However, I recognize the challenges posed by certain grammatical concepts. Therefore, I'm ready to switch to English whenever needed, offering clear explanations for complex grammar topics.
But that's not all: as a pronunciation coach, I hold the key to helping you shed your mother-tongue accent and embrace the melodic sounds of Italian. By mastering the subtle nuances of Italian intonation and pronunciation, we'll unlock the full potential of your language skills.
Join me on this awesome language-learning adventure! Together, we'll make Italian an integral part of your life, revealing the richness of its culture and the joy of connecting with its people.

Ciao! My name is Silvana and I have been teaching Italian at all levels for over 10 years.
Since I was a child, I have had a great passion for foreign languages and the different cultures of the world. This passion has helped me in my many travels and cultural interactions with people from all over the world.
I worked for many years in the tourism industry and I have many hobbies and interests. I like reading, art, cooking (Italian food, of course!), music, sports, cinema, trekking, holistic therapies and much more!
I love my language and I love to teach it! I teach Italian to adults and children, from beginner to proficiency level, in a simple and engaging way. Every lesson is personalized, using different material (books, articles, videos, audios, games, etc.). My motto is: "learning Italian is fun!"
I have a degree in Foreign Languages and Literature (specialising in American studies) at the University Institute "L'Orientale" in Naples and I hold a post-graduate Masters degree in "Didactic methodologies for teaching Italian to foreigners - Teaching Italian as a foreign language/second language".
My lessons are engaging and never boring. I use different teaching materials for different levels and, in class,I cover all the different learning skills of a language (speaking, listening, writing and reading).
I like to focus on practical conversations and on the real use of the real italian in everyday context. Grammar is always explained in context. I find excercises and quiz games a very useful and practical way to memorize rules and vocabulary. In my lessons I also cover cultural aspects and curiosities about Italy (food, art, cinema, traditions, etc.).
I can also teach you some Neapolitan dialect as I come from the region Campania.
If you wish to learn my wonderful language, get to know the italian culture, the traditions, the food and the italian lifestyle in a fun and friendly way, get in touch for a private lesson! I am looking forward to meeting you!

I am a teacher in Lettere Moderne in a high school with a background in linguistics. I'm certified to teach Italian language to foreigners and I've been teaching for 7 years non-stop, experimenting with many methods of teaching. I consider myself a perennial student. I speak English, Spanish and French, I can translate Latin and I love history and philosophy. I use a communicative approach but I deem grammar essential, that's why I prefer to alternate exercises, reading and creative games. In my free time, I write, I watch movies and I practice sport. I also enjoy playing my guitar and playing chess. I'm open to talk about any topics.

See Reviews From StudentsMany students initially have reservations about participating in online Italian classes, thinking the experience will be vastly different from in-person classes. However, they often discover that online classes can be just as engaging and effective. In an online Italian class, you’ll interact with your teacher and classmates as if you were all in the same room. The teacher may share resources (like articles or videos) and will collaborate with you in real-time using tools like Google Docs or Dropbox Paper, ensuring an interactive learning environment. The biggest benefit is convenience: there is no need to travel, and you can book lessons for when it suits you.
While some teachers on LanguaTalk may offer in-person conversational classes in their local area, the majority specialize in online teaching. This approach is more convenient for them, allowing flexibility and the comfort of working from home. Most teachers are not based in Lugano and are spread across the globe, so if you're looking for a class with LanguaTalk, you should anticipate an online learning experience.
Whilst not always the case, Italian classes in Lugano are typically more expensive than online learning options. This is due to the costs associated with using a classroom, as well as travel time and expenses for teachers. Online classes, on the other hand, eliminate these overheads. Additionally, online instructors often live in countries with lower living costs, which can further reduce the price of online classes.
If you prefer in-person learning over online classes, LanguaTalk might not be the best fit for your needs. For local classes, you can search through community boards or local service listing websites. However, we encourage you to explore the convenience and effectiveness of online classes. You can start with a free trial session to experience the benefits first-hand, such as access to a broader range of experienced teachers and potentially lower costs.
Lessons are taught one-on-one to ensure that you receive customized instruction. During the lessons, your tutor will use a variety of teaching methods and resources, including language exercises, conversation practice, and cultural notes, to help you reach your learning objectives.
All lessons take place via video call. Your tutor will normally give you a choice of calling tools, all of which are easy to use.
One of the benefits of online lessons is that you can learn anytime, anywhere. When you choose a tutor, simply check their calendar to ensure that they have times that fit your schedule. Some tutor may have limited availability due to high demand.
LanguaTalk offers personalized 1-on-1 Italian lessons with top-rated tutors. Here's how to get started:
1 - Find a tutor that meets your needs by reviewing their videos, reviews, pricing, and availability.
2 - Book a trial lesson. Many tutors offer a free 30-minute trial, while others offer a discounted trial price.
3 - Have personalized lessons with your chosen tutor via video call. Or try a different tutor if desired.
You don't need to provide credit card information to book a free trial session. Please only book a trial if you're seriously considering taking lessons. Tutor prices vary, and you can use the filter to find one that fits your budget. You can pay for individual lessons or purchase a package for a discount (view a tutor's pricing options on their profile).
We're confident you'll enjoy learning on LanguaTalk. Our platform is trusted by students worldwide because of our transparency. We ask students to rate each lesson, and we display these ratings on tutor profiles.
99.8% of lesson ratings are 5 stars. This is because we only accept the top 10% of tutor applications, unlike other platforms.
To access our full list of FAQs or get assistance from our friendly team, click the 'Help' button in the bottom-right. You can also watch students sharing their experiences learning on LanguaTalk below.
Most students take 55-minute lessons. However, some tutors also offer the option of 30-minute lessons. If this option is available, it will be noted on the tutor's profile (below their pricing and above the 'Buy Lessons' button).
In general, 55-minute lessons are recommended for most students. 30-minute lessons may be suitable if you're taking lessons for your child or if you have an intermediate level and only want conversation practice.
If you're new to LanguaTalk, we'll provide you with a credit for a free trial session. Many, but not all, tutor offer these for free. If a tutor does not offer a free trial, the trial price will be 30 percent of their full lesson price, allowing you to still try a session at a reduced cost.
Trial sessions last 30 minutes. They allow you to determine if the tutor is a good fit for you and get a sense of what online learning is like. The tutor will assess your level and try to understand your needs and interests so that they can tailor any lessons you choose to take. You'll be encouraged to speak as much as possible in Italian, but you can also speak in English if needed.
If, after your trial session, you don't feel that the tutor is right for you, you can book a trial with another tutor for 30 percent of their full lesson price.
