My name is Vicki and I am a CELTA-qualified English teacher for speakers of other languages. CELTA is the teaching certificate issued by Cambridge University. I have taught all levels of English and all ages. I currently teach 100 percent online and I highly enjoy getting to know people from all over the world. I also have an academic background (Ph.D. in Social and Political Thought). My time at university has helped developed my English to an advanced level.

As a language learner myself (German), I know how important it is to enjoy the learning process and to feel safe to make mistakes. I am a very friendly and encouraging teacher. My lessons are also very student-centered as the more opportunities a student has to practice the language, the better they get at it. While I am comfortable teaching a wide range of students, particular areas that I specialize in are as follows:

Academic English: i.e. learning appropriate vocabulary, practicing writing academic essays, and undertaking reading comprehension tasks.  

Business English: i.e. preparing a presentation and writing an effective email. 

English for Tour Guides: such as tour-related vocabulary and phrasing.

English for Teenagers: I have courses specifically designed for teenagers and their interests. Levels B1 - C1. 

Conversational English; many students have a strong understanding of English grammar and vocabulary, but struggle to hold everyday conversations with native speakers. Conversational classes focus on improving students' abilities to speak more naturally and spontaneously about a range of topics.   

In addition to language lessons, I can also help with editing texts such as scripts and emails.

Please note, that while I can understand a lot of German my spoken level is B1 and my lessons are normally held completely in English.

Hello everyone and welcome to my profile! My name is Leon and I'm here to teach you English. I myself am a polyglot and so I have been through the journey of learning a foreign language many times. Whenever students ask me about the secret to how I have learnt so many languages, I remind them of how they themselves learnt their native tongue as a child. The fact is that there is no secret recipe - humans are born with the capacity to learn any human language that exists. The difference now, once an individual has grown up, is that one feels "scared" to make mistakes, unlike a child, and that an adult also has "less time" to prioritise language learning/acquisition, because of other responsibilities.

• Before the lesson, I send you links to movie clips plus listening and writing tasks to improve your listening skills. 
• You listen to the clips, do the tasks, and write your answers in a Google doc that I share with you. That way I can see your answers. 
• During a 30-minute class, we go over your answers together and I help you understand words and expressions from the clip you didn't catch. 
• You learn new vocabulary, improve your listening skills and work on your pronunciation. We'll also have some general discussion about the clip.

I have more than five years of experience in teaching English: my introduction to teaching was a volunteering project in a French high school, then it became my profession when I started working in a language school in Szeged, Hungary. In the language school I held business English and everyday English courses for all levels, mostly teaching small groups of adults. Apart from that, I also held private Hungarian and French lessons through the school. Currently I am teaching online because I travel a lot, and working remotely allows me to keep doing what I love, from anywhere in the world.

When you become my student I will ask about your goals, asses your level, and recommend a course book based on your level and needs. In case you would only like to practice communication or wouldn't like to learn from a book, we can also simply talk and occassionally use some worksheets to make the lessons more varied and enjoyable. All my lessons are generally very communicative – I try to stay in the background and correct you when necessary, and guide you through the exercises instead of giving you the answers. From experience I know that real learning happens when you figure things out for yourself, and not when you are passively listening for your teacher's explanations.:)
