Hello and welcome!
I am a qualified English teacher from the USA currently living in Spain. I have more than eight years of experience and have worked in five countries!
1. How can I help you?
I offer a mix of classes including Conversation, Grammar, Cambridge Prep, and Business. I focus on student-output and try to make a learner feel as comfortable as possible in the online environment.
I really encourage you to look at your Speaking skills and comfort. I find that even advanced students benefit from general conversation which I will happily guide.
2. What method do you use?
Together, we will decide what are your goals for the class. Then, I use a mix of multimedia (video, audio, online games) and tradition coursework.
Alongside working online, I also am an ESL teacher in a Spanish school.
3, I want to work on something specific.
Excellent! Join a class and share what you want to improve, focus on, learn and together. I am here to facilitate learning and make sure you see personal growth.
4. I am nervous to start learning English.
Personally, I have been studying Spanish for many years. I know it can cause anxiety to speak in another language. But the best thing to do is just start! Be clear with your goals, time frame, and intentions and go from there.
5. What are you interested in? Are we similar?
I have a love of travelling, and have combined my job (ESL teacher) with this hobby. I also spend a lot of time at the beach and hiking. But don't forget, it can assist in interesting conversations if we have different interests.

Hello everyone and welcome to my profile! My name is Leon and I'm here to teach you English. I myself am a polyglot and so I have been through the journey of learning a foreign language many times. In addition to English, I also know French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Persian, Turkish and Armenian, and currently learning German and Georgian. If you know one of those languages, I will be happy to explain things in your language from time to time.
Whenever students ask me about the secret to how I have learnt so many languages, I remind them of how they themselves learnt their native tongue as a child. The fact is that there is no secret recipe - humans are born with the capacity to learn any human language that exists. The difference now, once an individual has grown up, is that one feels "scared" to make mistakes, unlike a child, and that an adult also has "less time" to prioritise language learning/acquisition, because of other responsibilities.
I support my students in learning English in accordance with their own preferences. Whether it is a grammar-focused approach, a preference for language immersion or task-based learning, we will discuss the approach that suits your language learning needs most.See Reviews From Students

Hi! I’m Sue and I live in beautiful South Africa.
I’m a TEFL certified English teacher and I specialise in business English, conversational fluency and pronunciation.
I’ve taught hundreds of students – just like you – from beginners to advanced.
I’m a fun and patient teacher and my classroom is a relaxed, safe space where it’s okay to make lots of mistakes, because that is how you learn.
Our trial lesson will be mostly conversational, where we’ll talk about your English goals and what you want to achieve. Then, I’ll create a tailored learning plan for you. We’ll focus on YOUR unique learning needs, and I’ll work with you to help you achieve your goals.
Learning happens in a fun and positive environment and when we experience language in different ways. I like to use a variety of learning methods: videos, podcasts, interesting texts, role-plays, real-life conversations and simulations. There’ll be lots of opportunities to practice – to build your speaking skills and your confidence. I’ll teach you tips and techniques that you can use, and I’ll give you practical tools to help you improve your English fluency.
I believe in patient correction and constructive feedback – so that you know what you’re doing well, and areas you should work on.
I learn Italian in my spare time, so I really understand the challenges and frustrations that come with learning a language!
I can help you speak naturally, sound professional, and feel confident.
So, book a trial session with me and let’s get you started!See Reviews From Students
Hi, I'm Cara. I'm originally from the UK but have lived in France for 15 years. I've been teaching English for around 10 years, online and offline. I'm passionate about helping people thrive, not just survive in English-speaking countries by improving their listening skills.
So, if you're struggling to understand fast-talking native speakers without subtitles, whether in real life or when watching movies, I can help. For the last 6 years I've developed my own special method to help you improve your English listening skills with movies and TV shows.
Improving your listening skills helps you not only understand people better, but also makes you sound more natural in English. When you understand better what people are saying to you, you can pick up expressions that native speakers really use so that you can fit in better with them.
Here's how my lessons work (my classes are 30 minutes long with pre-class tasks to complete):

Me as a Teacher
I am a professional English teacher with more than 30 years of teaching experience mainly in US - NYC and UK - East Midlands. Initially as a college English and Maths teacher, these days I teach online. My learners are students who tend to improve their school grades, students who are preparing for international exams, business professionals who work or intend to work for international companies or people who learn English for pleasure. For every individual I usually prepare some tasks for a free talk, grammar practice or a role-play situation with targeting vocabulary and phrases. There is always a summary, a given feedback at the end of the class which helps my learners to make progress highly visible.
My lessons & teaching style
I believe that every learner is different and teaching them should be personalized. I like to apply different teaching methods to see which one would be the most productive. Of course, I need to meet student several times to be able to find out his/her learning style and be able to create a teaching strategy. In my experience, an individual approach, a personalized topic and mutual effort definitely bring some fruit.See Reviews From Students
Hi there! My name is Alessia and I'm a certified English teacher from Canada. I've been living in Lucca, Italy for the past seven years and I love it!
I've been teaching for over six years now. In 2016 I completed my TESOL certificate and shortly thereafter began teaching at a private elementary school. I've worked with people ages 5-55 and my favourite thing about teaching is getting to know people from different cultures and learning all about their customs and traditions. My second favourite thing is seeing my students succeed and achieve their language goals!
My approach to teaching depends on the individual needs of my students. Each lesson is customized to the unique goals of my students. That being said, you can definitely expect homework in my classes! For conversation lessons, we'll focus on using media to expand your vocabulary and spend the entire lesson speaking about different topics. For those who need a grammar brush-up, we'll use various books to support your learning but still focus on conversation to help you fully integrate what you've just learned!
I'm looking forward to getting to know you and supporting you to reach your language goals!See Reviews From Students
I'm Ryan, I am a Canadian Certified English TESOL instructor. I am a Native English speaker, currently living in Mexico. I have taught all ages and abilities. In the past I have taught at an English school but now I am mostly teaching online, which I enjoy al lot! I love teaching English to beginners, intermediates and I also really look forward to helping advanced leaners prep for IELTS, CELPIP or even preparing you for your next job interview.
In my classes we will work on conversation skills, grammar, phrasal verbs, idioms, and new vocabulary, also we can review any current English school work you have. I know that I was talking a little fast in my video, but I promise to slow down in our class as my students ability dictates.
Everyone learns in different ways, I'll quickly find out what's the best way to teach to you and we'll have fun doing it. Whether you are a beginner or need some help with your conversation skills I will be happy to assist you!See Reviews From Students

Hi, I’m Sean. Teacher, climber, surfer, and traveller.
If you want to improve your fluency and confidence in general or business English, I’m here to help.
I live in Spain and study Spanish and Catalan, so I know how hard it can be to learn a new language, move to a new country and find a job. For over 15 years, I’ve helped friends and colleagues from all over the world to improve their English in the workplace, and at informal social events.
I have run three businesses and spent most of my career as a manager and consultant. I now teach general and business English in schools, and privately to national businesses in Spain.
My classes provide structure using the latest course books and are adapted to your personal needs and interests to make each class relevant and memorable. I will give you feedback and suggestions every lesson and provide materials to help you revise and retain what you have learned.
I have a friendly and relaxed approach to teaching. My lessons are fun, engaging, and inclusive.

My name is Mark, I'm TEFL- certified and I specialize in creating a comfortable and fun English learning environment.
I have been helping adults ( ages 18 +) online for over 10 years, during which time, I have also studied Spanish, Russian and Chinese.
I understand the difficulties of learning a new language and attempt to address these issues directly in my sessions.
I believe that learning is a by-product of good teaching.
I understand that teaching is not 1 method for all situations, and requires adjusting and variety throughout the process.
I want to offer fun and excitement to the learning environment and process. Helping you become a confident and fluid speaker, requires consistency of instruction along with diligence in practice. Together we can create an amazing learning environment that will allow you to achieve your learning goals.
I can assist you with TOEFL, IELTS, CELPIP, LSAT, SAT, PTE, and other EXAM preps. I'm able to help you simply focus on conversational English, expressing yourself in everyday situations. The formal language of business English can be difficult terrain to traverse, but I can guide you through the process. Many students have just wanted to improve grammar and vocabulary, session work along with between session work (homework). We can tackle consistency and fluency.
Feel free to have a trial lesson to see how I can help you be the English speaker you want to become,See Reviews From Students
Hi, I’m Rob, an English teacher from Canada currently living in Prague, Czech Republic, with 20 years of ESL and university teaching experience. I work with intermediate to advanced students (B1-C2), with most of my students interested in conversation/communication English (focusing on speaking and listening skills, including fluency, vocabulary, pronunciation and intonation, and grammar), but I’m also happy to work with students on writing and reading.
My teaching style is relaxed, friendly, and engaging—I try to make every lesson an interesting and enjoyable one. But I’m also professional, prepared, organized, and reliable. I rarely use a textbook—some students mainly enjoy having conversation, but I also often use videos and texts of various kinds and even songs to provide a wide variety of topics, new vocabulary, varieties of listening practice, etc., and lessons are individually designed to each student’s level, interests, and requirements.
I’ve taught English in Vietnam and Czech Republic since 2016 and also have 12 years of Canadian university teaching experience in cultural history and in architecture/design. I’m also a writer-artist-designer. I received a professional architecture degree in 1989 and the Trinity College Level 5 English teaching certification in 2019. I’m a native English speaker with an easy-to-understand neutral Canadian accent.
For the last 2 years, most of my English teaching has been online, though I also enjoy teaching non-virtually. I primarily use and recommend the Zoom platform for online teaching for its reliability, video/sound quality, and support for varieties of teaching resources. Students can use Zoom from their browser or by downloading the app on their desktop or phone/tablet (though laptop is recommended).
So, if this sounds like what you’re looking for, I invite you to sign up for a trial lesson with me, and we’ll take it from there …See Reviews From Students
Hello! I'm Julian. I am from South Africa. I have a 420-hour TEFL Diploma (Level 5) which is equivalent to a CELTA-qualification. I specialise in Business English, Job Interview Preparation and Conversational Fluency. I focus on helping you communicate more effectively and confidently in the workplace and in life. Many of my students have shared their success stories after having classes with me. Some of these stories include being able to do a presentation in English for the first time, participating effectively in business meetings, closing a deal in a negotiation and passing a job interview.
What makes me different is that I only select the most common and natural English phrases and word combinations (collocations) to learn and practice in my classes. In this way, you are able to become an effective communicator and speak confidently in a variety of situations. Most of these phrases can be used in different situations.See Reviews From Students
Hi, I’m Liz. I’m a native English speaker and I have spent most of my life living and working in London, England.
I have a CELTA qualification for teaching English as a foreign language, and I also have a BA in English Literature from a central London university.
My teaching experience has been predominately online in 1-2-1 lessons, but I also have experience teaching in person to groups of children at language camp in the UK.
I plan bespoke lessons specifically to meet your needs. During the trial, or initial lesson I will spend time getting to know you and thinking about how I can best help you to meet your goals. This may be by working together on a structured curriculum, or perhaps you need to focus on your speaking skills so you can improve your confidence.
I use a variety of materials, including course books, online exercises and news articles.
I have also helped some of my students to prepare for their English Literature exams, here in the UK, or internationally. I particularly enjoy these lessons as I am passionate about literature.
I would love to help you on your language journey so I hope to meet you soon.See Reviews From Students
Hi, I’m Jocelyn. I’m an Architecture student from Bristol, and I go to Cardiff University. I’m taking a year out to go travelling, and have recently moved to Seville in Spain where I'm volunteering as a teacher in a Bilingual academy. For almost a year, I’ve been tutoring students aged 11-18. These have ranged from pupils preparing for curriculum exams, to learning English as their second language.
I have always made sure to be sympathetic to students' situations, and am flexible with lesson lengths and times. I make every effort to accommodate your needs and targets as a student, to ensure we approach the lesson in a way that works best for you. My aim is to facilitate your learning development with interactive lessons that you can fit into your schedule, without making you feel overloaded.
Having a family background in education has inspired me to gain my TEFL qualification, which has given me the knowledge to be able to teach a range of lessons within the subject of English. These include: Business English for a workplace setting, conversational English, grammar and preparing for curriculum exams, to name just a few.
During lessons, lots of speaking is key, as I thrive on being able to build a good relationship with my students. I’m young and enthusiastic, and always welcome questions. If this approach to learning feels like it could work for you, or you’d like to discuss your objectives in more detail, please feel free to book a trial session. I look forward to meeting you.See Reviews From Students

1 - Find your ideal tutor by browsing videos, reviews, pricing and availability.
2 - Book a trial. Many tutors offer a 30-minute trial for free; others charge a discounted price.
3 - Take personalised lessons with your new tutor via video call. Or try someone else.
No card is required to book a free trial session. Please only book if you’re considering taking lessons. Pricing varies by tutor and you can use the filter to find someone who fits your budget. You can pay one lesson at a time, or buy in bulk for a discount (open a tutor's profile to see their pricing options).
We’re confident you’ll love learning via LanguaTalk. We're trusted by students all over the world because we're transparent. We ask students to rate each lesson, and we display reviews on tutors’ profiles.
99.8% of lesson ratings are 5 stars. Why? Because unlike other platforms, we accept only the top 10% of tutor applications.
To see our full FAQs or get help from our friendly team, click the '?' in the corner of the screen. You can also watch students talking about their experiences learning via LanguaTalk below.
1-on-1 lessons are perhaps the best way to improve speaking skills, and because of this many students use LanguaTalk to learn to speak English fluently. That said, some students have other, more specific goals. Tell your tutor what your goals are and they'll tailor the lessons to your needs. Most tutors can help with any of the following:
New to LanguaTalk? You'll have one credit for a free trial. Most tutors offer a trial for free. If they do not, they’ll offer a trial session at a discount compared to their usual hourly rate.
Trial sessions last 30 minutes. They allow you to assess whether the tutor is a good fit for you, and get a feel for learning online. The tutor will assess your level and aim to understand your needs and interests so that they can customise any lessons you decide to take. You'll be encouraged to speak in English as much as possible, but of course you can speak in English too!
After your session, if you feel that the tutor isn’t quite right for you, you can simply book a trial with someone else.
Most of the English tutors on our site are able to teach students of all levels. When you click on a tutor's profile you'll see if certain levels are not supported. For example, certain tutors cannot teach complete beginners.
Likewise, you can also see on the tutor's profile whether they're suitable for all ages. Online English lessons are sometimes taken to support school/college studies. Usually, the tutor will be able to customise the lessons to follow the material and topics covered in the student's exams. Please note that as per our Terms & Conditions, students who are under 18 must get permission from a legal guardian before booking.
Lessons are taught 1-on-1 so that you receive your tutor’s full attention and can make fast progress. Communicating via video call, you’ll be able to talk to your tutor and share learning materials as if you were in the same room.
The tutors vary in terms of their teaching methods, resources, experiences, and personalities. So we suggest you look at several profiles to choose the best tutor for you. Whichever English tutor you pick, they'll aim to tailor the lessons to your individual needs.
The vast majority of students take 55-minute lessons. But some tutors also provide the option of 30-minute lessons. If they do, you’ll see this noted on their profile (below their pricing and above the ‘Buy Lessons’ button).
55-minute lessons are recommended for most students. In general, we only suggest considering 30-minute lessons if they’re for your child, or you have an intermediate level and only want conversation practice.
We want students to have an exceptional learning experience on LanguaTalk, so we only accept the very best tutor applications. Though we consider qualifications and experience, we place equal value on communication skills, personality and reviews from previous students. Almost all tutors are native speakers of the language they teach, and we require that they can speak English too.
Each tutor is different - they have different backgrounds, strengths, teaching methods and personalities. So we suggest you browse several profiles to find the right English tutor for you.
The beauty of taking lessons online is that you can learn anytime, anywhere. To see tutors who are likely to fit your weekly schedule, use the availability filter at the top. Then when you see a tutor you like, check their profile calendar to make sure their time slots work for you. Some tutors have limited availability as they already have lots of students.
Our booking system is designed to be incredibly easy to use. You can see tutors' available hours in your local time zone. If you choose to book lessons with a tutor, you'll be able to purchase them one at a time, or buy in bulk with a volume discount. You can pay securely by card on our website.
You can manually add bookings to your personal calendar, or if you use Google calendar, you can add bookings automatically with our syncing feature. You'll also be able to receive email reminders to help ensure you don't forget to turn up.
You can reschedule or cancel lessons in a couple of clicks. Note that this can only be done up to 24 hours before the lesson time. This rule is required to protect tutors, who lose income when lessons are cancelled at the last minute.
Sometimes students feel uncertain about learning English online because they think it’ll be totally different to learning face-to-face. But usually when they try it, they find that the experience is almost the same and they often build a strong relationship with their tutor.
Once you start a video call with your chosen English tutor online, you’ll be able to communicate with them as if you were in the same room. They’ll usually also share learning resources with you (using Google Docs, YouTube etc.) and you’ll be able to collaborate in real-time.
According to the Foreign Service Institute, if you already speak English, English is one of the easiest languages to learn. The exact amount of time it will take you to become fluent will depend on many factors, such as your current level, your knowledge of similar languages, your capacity to learn, how you study, and how intensively you study. Some will be able to go from beginner to conversational fluency within a couple of months through intensive study. Others will take longer. Combining 1-on-1 lessons with an online English tutor with regular self-study is an effective way to learn English fast.
If you live in the US or Europe, face-to-face English lessons may cost anywhere between $20 and $60 (USD) per hour. Online tutoring tends to be cheaper than face-to-face because the tutor doesn't need to travel to you. An online English tutor could cost anywhere from $13 to $50 per hour, but be aware that very cheap tutors may lack experience. On LanguaTalk, English tutors typically charge between $14 and $40 per hour.
Of course, learning 1-on-1 with an experienced English tutor is not the cheapest way to learn; you could learn via a free app instead. But if you're serious about learning, nothing beats 1-on-1 English lessons with a great teacher.
There is no 'best way' to learn a language - it depends on your needs, level and budget. If you can't afford to take lessons, you can use a free app such as Duolingo to build your vocabulary. And to improve your listening skills, you can watch TV and listen to podcasts in English. But to learn how to actually speak a language, you need to talk to a native speaker on a regular basis and receive accurate feedback so that you improve. If you want to make fast progress, it's best to take 1-on-1 lessons that are tailored to your needs by an experienced online English teacher.Arabic tutors | Chinese tutors | Dutch tutors | French tutors | German tutors | Greek tutors | Italian tutors | Japanese tutors | Korean tutors | Portuguese tutors | Romanian tutors | Russian tutors | Spanish tutors | Swedish tutors | Thai tutors
