Oi gente! 

I'm an accomplished educator, translator and transcriber in Portuguese, English and French with over 8 years of experience, hailing from the state of Goiás in Brazil. I have a Bachelor's degree in Languages (French and Francophone studies major) and I am currently a Master's degree student in Cultural Studies in France. Immersed in the picturesque city of Bordeaux for more than 3 years now, I've embraced its cultural treasures, complementing my diverse background in music, art and culture.

Throughout my teaching tenure, I've engaged with various age groups and proficiency levels in Portuguese, English, and French. Beginning as an English tutor for high school and college students, I progressed to teaching English across different skill levels and facilitating dynamic conversation classes at a professional institution. Moreover, I had the privilege of serving as a Portuguese language tutor for France Éducation Internationale, an initiative backed by the French government. In 2019, I transitioned to online instruction, mentoring children aged 4-12 in English while also leading French as a Foreign Language (FLE) sessions for small groups and individuals ranging from A2 to C1 levels. 

During our first trial lesson, I will make sure to understand your goals, what you like, and how you learn best. I always keep in mind that everyone is different, so I adjust my material for each student. I like using the communicative approach, encouraging conversation right from day one in a suitable way (level-wise). But I am also qualified to focus on grammar and very specific aspects of the language if you desire or if we judge this necessary. 

As a language, art and culture enthusiast and professional, in my sessions, you'll delve into Brazilian culture through music, literature, videos, quizzes and many other tools. 

Language learning has to be fun, in my opinion. That’s why we will always talk about things that interest and inspire you. If we’re practicing grammar or just talking about something else, I want to make it interesting for you and link the grammatical and formal terms to real-life subjects. Olá! My name is Carolina and it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Portuguese, and I have been teaching my mother tongue for over 7 years, both at university level and online. I like to diversify the materials I use as much as possible to focus on all different aspects of the language, but I tend to prioritize speaking practice. I have taught courses as diverse as Spoken Portuguese, Advanced Writing, Portuguese Culture/Literature, and even Sports Readings in Portuguese. Your language goals will always play a part when planning our lessons, so don't hesitate to tell me what you expect.

If you plan on visiting Portugal as a tourist or have Portuguese speaking friends/relatives you may prefer a conversational approach, but if you're interested in using the language for business, you may be interested in learning how to compose an e-mail in Portuguese (an underestimated art form). No matter what your motivation to learn Portuguese is, I am keen in hearing about it. I'll also try to accomodate your interests as much as possible.

If you are curious about the story of how I became a Portuguese teacher, read ahead:

I studied Modern Languages at the University of Coimbra (look it up; it's one of the oldest universities in Europe!) and Literature at the University of Glasgow (quite a stunner as well). One day, a Chinese friend at the pub asked me whether I'd like to apply to his home university, all the way in China, as a Portuguese lecturer. I said 'no way,' so naturally, I ended up moving there shortly after and living in the beautiful city of Harbin for 3 amazing years. Not only did that experience provide me with adventure, but also a lifelong calling: I have loved teaching ever since. After returning to Portugal, I taught online for two years at Beijing Sport University and a few other language schools operating around the world. Now I work as a freelance online teacher and divide my time between Portugal and Sweden.
