Hello! I'm Josh and I'm a TEFL certified native British English speaker from Cambridge in the United Kingdom. I've been working as an English teacher for more than 6 years, and I'm passionate about language learning and teaching. Over the years, I've studied German and Spanish, which has given me an insight into what it's like to learn a foreign language. Also, throughout my teaching career, I've had the privilege of meeting many people from around the world. This experience has allowed me to learn about different cultures, helping me to become a more considerate and open-minded person. Personally, I believe that this is one of the greatest strengths that a teacher of English as a foreign language can have. 

What am I like as a teacher?

I'm a disciplined individual with a strong attention to detail. My belief is that everyone has the potential to improve, so I aim to help my students reach their goals by being both encouraging and supportive. Whatever your reason(s) for learning English, my goal is to provide you with the ideal environment in which to improve your language skills. Also, I will do my best to be adaptable by adjusting my teaching style and the focus of our lessons to reflect your needs. What's the style of my lessons?

We'll use a variety of different materials to ensure that you have a well balanced and engaging English learning experience. To help you build confidence and improve your proficiency, we can use resources such as news articles, stories, other texts and videos. Alternatively, we can focus on improving your skills through natural conversation; it’s up to you. 

Regarding my teaching style, my priority is to make sure that you feel relaxed by being encouraging and supportive. Furthermore, I'll focus on helping you to correct your mistakes and speak English like a native speaker, which will improve the quality of your English communication. Rest assured that you have no need to be afraid of making mistakes because this will help you to improve your English more quickly. 
 

Finally, if you know how you learn best and want to discuss that with me, I can take your specific learning preferences into account while teaching you, which I know will make our lessons even more enjoyable. All you have to do is let me know!

I am a professional English teacher with more than 30 years of teaching experience mainly in US - NYC and UK - East Midlands. Initially as a college English and Maths teacher, these days I teach online. My learners are students who tend to improve their school grades, students who are preparing for international exams, business professionals who work or intend to work for international companies or people who learn English for pleasure.  For every individual I usually prepare some tasks for a free talk, grammar practice or a role-play situation with targeting vocabulary and phrases. There is always a summary, a given feedback at the end of the class which helps my learners to make progress highly visible.

I believe that every learner is different and teaching them should be personalized. I like to apply different teaching methods to see which one would be the most productive. I believe language learning should be exciting, not a cause of stress. It's just another mode of expression, after all. It's like learning to paint or to draw, to walk or to dance; it takes some time to master the first few steps, but once a student gets moving through the language, they'll soon find they're able to express their true personality in no time at all. My role is help you through all of those steps, whether you're an advanced student or just starting out, and I do this by creating an learning environment that is completely individualised to you, your learning style and goals. 

I am teaching a variety of students, engaging in conversation practise; practising listening, reading and writing skills; studying grammar; preparing for exams; and even helping students who are interested in taking their creative writing to the next level! I believe in making language learning as immersive as possible. My favourite thing about teaching is meeting people from all over the world with completely different personalities and stories. It's a pleasure to hear their points of view and talk about pretty much everything. Being a teacher means you are also learning. And this learning never stops! Every interaction and conversation is an opportunity to see the world in a different way.
