Me as a Teacher
I am a professional English teacher with more than 30 years of teaching experience mainly in US - NYC and UK - East Midlands. Initially as a college English and Maths teacher, these days I teach online. My learners are students who tend to improve their school grades, students who are preparing for international exams, business professionals who work or intend to work for international companies or people who learn English for pleasure.  For every individual I usually prepare some tasks for a free talk, grammar practice or a role-play situation with targeting vocabulary and phrases. There is always a summary, a given feedback at the end of the class which helps my learners to make progress highly visible.

My lessons & teaching style

I believe that every learner is different and teaching them should be personalized. I like to apply different teaching methods to see which one would be the most productive. Of course, I need to meet student several times to be able to find out his/her learning style and be able to create a teaching strategy. In my experience, an individual approach, a personalized topic and mutual effort definitely bring some fruit.

Hi, I’m Jocelyn. I’m an Architecture student from Bristol, and I go to Cardiff University. I was previously volunteering as an English teacher at a Bilingual Academy, on my year out living abroad in Seville, and I also completed an Architecture Internship when I was there. For the last two years, I’ve been tutoring students of all ages. These have ranged from pupils preparing for curriculum exams, to learning English as their second language.

I have always made sure to be sympathetic to students' situations, and am flexible with lesson lengths and times. I make every effort to accommodate your needs and targets as a student, to ensure we approach the lesson in a way that works best for you. My aim is to facilitate your learning development with interactive lessons that you can fit into your schedule, without making you feel overloaded.

Having a family background in education has inspired me to gain my TEFL qualification, which has given me the knowledge to be able to teach a range of lessons within the subject of English. I strive to make my lessons dynamic and lively. 

Every student is unique, so my goal is to encourage even the shyest students to participate. 

I aim to create a positive learning atmosphere where students can express ideas and develop an interest in English which will result in them being more motivated to reach their learning goals.

Do you need to improve your English? I have tried-and-tested methods to help ESL students become more fluent and confident. I have a degree in education, a TEFL/TESL certificate, and an Online Teaching certificate with lots of experience. I have also authored English textbooks and study guides for children in the primary school.  

My approach is holistic. I use interesting topics, pronunciation drills and language videos to help develop fluency AND accuracy. I am patient and very encouraging as I believe students learn best when they feel relaxed. I've had great results with many students aiming to get to a new English level or maintain a high level. With advanced students, I like to discuss complex topics and deal with work-related issues.  

I have lived in South Africa my whole life but have been fortunate to travel to many countries and experience many different cultures and of course, delicious dishes. I enjoy the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. I also love keeping up to date with current affairs including sport, politics, and arts and culture. I've been teaching English for over five years. I have a Bachelor's degree in TESOL with a minor in Spanish. My lessons are flexible to the needs and preferences of my students, always with a focus on speaking. I am a relaxed, encouraging, and patient teacher.

I was born and raised in the United States, then moved to Central America for a few years as an adult. Now I am back in the United States. Hi, I am Harriet, a native English speaker and qualified teacher.

The lessons are structured around you as an individual and start with finding out what you want to learn or improve and why. We will then agree a plan of fun and challenging activities to help you meet your goals. I teach general conversation skills, including increasing confidence and learning new vocabulary, and Business English. I have helped many students successfully prepare for job interviews or to take on new roles. I can also help you prepare for the language tests. 

The lessons will be lively and varied, using a range of methods, materials and contexts. We will regularly review your progress and goals and I will suggest activities outside of class to help you practice what you have learnt. I am experienced in teaching beginners to advanced level students from teenagers to adults.  I live in Hove in southeast England and also spend a lot of time in Lisbon, Portugal. I've had my degree in emergency medical care for an amazing 16 years, and I find teaching this topic to be very fulfilling. I gained my CELTA in 2020 and I have been teaching English ever since, sometimes on-site at St George's International, a North London College, but more often, online, at home, which I really enjoy!

My method; I like to keep to a lesson plan, but only because that gives a class a good structure, making it simpler for students to understand the small part of the language we are focusing on. I keep it interesting by using various tools, like videos, audio tracks, images and games etc.

Aside from teaching I'm an actress and voiceover artist, - I have a strong interest in film and the arts, and occasionally it's fun reading dialogues or using stories/ scripts with students. 

I also travelled quite a lot in my twenties, and love to learn about different cultures and interests,  - I'm interested in what you want from the English language.
