In-person language lessons with a tutor can be a great experience, but if you're unable to find an affordable private Spanish tutor in Christchurch, online learning may be a good option for you. Hello everyone! My name is Clara, I am a Spanish teacher from Madrid. I have 5 years of experience as Spanish, French and German teacher (face to face and online). I have taught students from different countries.
I prepare my own materials to adapt lessons to each student, and we use too the book "Aula internacional" for general Spanish courses.
I teach courses to pass DELE (Spanish exam) by using different teaching methods: I explain the grammar points needed for the exam, I provide vocabulary worksheets focus on DELE, and we practice different tests samples (you do not need to buy any preparation book, because I will provide you all the materials you will need to pass DELE, and these materials are based on the most famous DELE methods and DELE books such as ´Las claves del nuevo DELE` or ´Preparación al DELE`)
Also, I do conversational courses. I have two conversational courses: the first one is focused on general conversation about daily life, and the second one is focused on specific topics (technology, education, health, environment, Spanish culture, Spanish history...; depending on the students preferences).
I hope to see you soon! :)

Hi, I’m José.
Most of my students already understand Spanish…
but they struggle to speak clearly and confidently in real conversations.
That’s exactly what I help you fix.
I’m a native Spanish teacher from Spain, with international experience living and working in Ireland and France.
I’ve also worked as a professional trainer, helping people improve communication and confidence in international environments.
So our lessons are not just about learning Spanish — they are about actually using it in real-life situations.
My classes are practical, relaxed, and focused on speaking.
We work on:
I mainly work with professionals and motivated learners who want to move beyond basic conversation and speak with clarity and confidence.
My goal is simple:
👉 to help you move from understanding Spanish to speaking it with confidence

My name is Mercedes and I am from a beautiful city in the south of Spain called Cádiz.
I have been teaching Spanish for many years now ( +3000 hours taught online) and during this time I have learnt a lot teaching both online and in person as I was able to start my teaching path in the lovely capital city of Scotland, Edinburgh 💙
I am certified as a Spanish language teacher through International House, a worldwide Organization that stands up for a communicative method.
My experience has taught me how effective it is to create a relaxed and calmed working environment in which both the student and the teacher feel comfortable working together towards a specific goal.
I offer a close accompaniment and guidance to discover the fundamental mechanism of the language. I will take into account where we start from and your goals for learning Spanish.
I am a person with extensive experience teaching adults, from basic to advanced levels. I have helped students to learn Spanish for many purposes: traveling in Latino América or España, planning to do El Camino de Santiago, improving your attention and memory, doing an exam or even planning to move to a Spanish speaking country.
My teaching style is different from the traditional approach we have had in schools since childhood.
I use what is called "Inductive Method". First, we will get into context to the topic through a video, an image, a reading, etc. Then we will learn the grammar or vocabulary concept to be introduced that day, and then we will do a good practice to internalize it.
But the best it is to experience it yourself!. So, why not give it a try and book an initial free consultation with me? :) I will be happy to hear about your reasons for wanting to learn Spanish.
¡Te espero! 🙋♀️

7 years teaching Spanish—wow! I specialize in ADHD-friendly, high-energy classes where mistakes are welcome and laughter is mandatory (seriously, no dull drills here).
After living in the U.S. for 6 years, I get it: that awful “ugh, I sound like a toddler in my second language” panic 😅.
My lessons? Grammar made fun, culture-packed conversations, and zero pressure. Plus, I’m a total nerd for cognitive hacks (like my Subjuntivo Punk Masterclass) that make tricky rules finally stick.
Ready to learn Spanish without the stress? Let’s turn “ugh, studying” into “heck yes, this works!

See Reviews From StudentsSometimes students tell us that they're not sure about learning Spanish online because they think it’ll be completely different to learning face-to-face. But usually when they try it, they find that the experience is almost the same and they often build a solid relationship with their tutor.
Once you start a video call with your chosen tutor, you’ll be able to communicate with them as if you were in the same room. The tutor will typically also share learning resources with you (newspaper articles, YouTube, etc.) and you’ll be able to collaborate in real-time using a tool like Google Docs or Dropbox Paper.
Whether you live in the city centre or the suburbs of Christchurch, there are many options for learning Spanish. You could use an app or a software program if you're looking to pick up basic vocabulary and learn some grammar rules. Alternatively, you could attend group lessons with Spanish tutors in Christchurch if you're keen for a social experience. Or, you could take 1-on-1 lessons with a private tutor. This isn't the cheapest way to learn a language but it's possibly the most effective, assuming you have a good tutor. Learning online rather than face-to-face may make private tutors a more affordable option. Check the tutor profiles above to see how much it's likely to cost. Prices vary a lot depending on the tutor, but will usually be cheaper than learning with a Spanish tutor in Christchurch, face-to-face.
Tutors on LanguaTalk sometimes provide lessons locally, but most only provide online lessons as it is more convenient and allows them to work from home. In addition, most tutors are not teaching Spanish in Christchurch because they're living elsewhere in the world. If you decide to book with a tutor, you should assume that they can only teach you online.
If you're really not keen on learning with a teacher via video call, LanguaTalk isn't going to be the right choice for you. You can instead search for a tutor on a local service listing website, or put up an advert in your local area. We do encourage you to give it a try learning online though - you've got nothing to lose as you can book a free trial session. Most people find the experience is as good as learning face-to-face, but with the benefit of having access to better tutors at a lower cost.
Our research suggests that the average cost for private Spanish lessons in Christchurch is somewhere between $25-$35 per hour. As online tutors do not need to travel to you and they often live in countries with a lower cost of living, the hourly cost tends to be significantly lower.
New to LanguaTalk? We'll give you a credit for a free trial session. Many, but not all, tutors offer these for free. If they do not, the price will be just 30 percent of their full lesson price, so you can still try a session at minimal cost.
Trial sessions last 30 minutes. They allow you to assess whether the tutor is a good fit for you, and get a feel for learning online. The tutor will assess your level and aim to understand your needs and interests so that they can customise any lessons you decide to take. You'll be encouraged to speak in Spanish as much as possible, but of course you can speak in English too!
If, after your trial session, you don't feel that the tutor is quite right for you, you can book a trial with another tutor for just 30 percent of their full lesson price.
On LanguaTalk, you can find exceptional tutors for 1-on-1 Spanish lessons tailored to your goals and learning preferences. Here’s how to try it for yourself:
1 - Find your ideal tutor by browsing videos, reviews, pricing and availability.
2 - Book a trial. Many tutors offer a 30-minute trial for free; others charge a discounted price.
3 - Take personalised lessons with your new tutor via video call. Or try someone else.
No card is required to book a free trial session. Please only book if you're considering taking lessons. Pricing varies by tutor and you can use the filter to find someone who fits your budget. You can pay one lesson at a time, or buy in bulk for a discount (open a tutor's profile to see their pricing options).
We’re confident you’ll love learning via LanguaTalk. We're trusted by students all over the world because we're transparent. We ask students to rate each lesson, and we display reviews on tutors’ profiles.
99.8% of lesson ratings are 5 stars. Why? Because unlike other platforms, we accept only the top 10% of tutor applications.
To see our full FAQs or get help from our friendly team, click the 'Help' button in the bottom-right. You can also watch students talking about their experiences learning via LanguaTalk below.
The beauty of taking lessons online is that you can learn anytime, anywhere. When you choose a tutor, just check their calendar to make sure that they have available times that fit your schedule. Some tutors have limited availability as they already have a lot of students.
Lessons are taught 1-on-1 so that you receive your tutor’s full attention and can make fast progress. Communicating via video call, you’ll be able to talk to your tutor and share learning materials as if you were in the same room.
The tutors vary in terms of their teaching methods, resources, experiences, and personalities. So we suggest you look at several profiles to choose the best tutor for you. Whichever Spanish tutor you pick, they'll aim to tailor the lessons to your individual needs.
The vast majority of students take 55-minute lessons. But some tutors also provide the option of 30-minute lessons. If they do, you’ll see this noted on their profile (below their pricing and above the ‘Buy Lessons’ button).
55-minute lessons are recommended for most students. In general, we only suggest considering 30-minute lessons if they’re for your child, or you have an intermediate level and only want conversation practice.
