Hi, I'm Cara. I'm originally from the UK but have lived in France for 15 years. I've been teaching English for around 10 years, online and offline. I'm passionate about helping people thrive, not just survive in English-speaking countries by improving their listening skills.
So, if you're struggling to understand fast-talking native speakers without subtitles, whether in real life or when watching movies, I can help. For the last 6 years I've developed my own special method to help you improve your English listening skills with movies and TV shows.
Improving your listening skills helps you not only understand people better, but also makes you sound more natural in English. When you understand better what people are saying to you, you can pick up expressions that native speakers really use so that you can fit in better with them.
Here's how my lessons work (my classes are 30 minutes long with pre-class tasks to complete):
Book a trial lesson to improve your listening and talk about movies with me.

Hello! I'm Julian. I am from South Africa. I have a 420-hour TEFL Diploma (Level 5) which is equivalent to a CELTA-qualification. I specialise in Business English, Job Interview Preparation and Conversational Fluency. I focus on helping you communicate more effectively and confidently in the workplace and in life. Many of my students have shared their success stories after having classes with me. Some of these stories include being able to do a presentation in English for the first time, participating effectively in business meetings, closing a deal in a negotiation and passing a job interview.
What makes me different is that I only select the most common and natural English phrases and word combinations (collocations) to learn and practice in my classes. In this way, you are able to become an effective communicator and speak confidently in a variety of situations. Most of these phrases can be used in different situations.

Hi there! My name is Daniela and I'm from San Francisco, California. I am a native English speaker who also speaks fluent Spanish and intermediate Portuguese. I have a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate as well as a Bachelor's Degree from Sacramento State University. I'm so excited to meet you!
I have a strong focus on real-world application of English. I love making students feel comfortable speaking and communicating in English, and my teaching style is conversation-based. Whether you are learning English for work, education, significant other, or just for self improvement, I can create a lesson plan suited to your specific needs. I love to start from the basics and work my way up to more complicated grammar and sentence structures, but am happy to match your abilities whether they be beginner or advanced. I want to hear about you! Whether it's grammar, reading, writing, speaking, or culture, let's work together to reach your goals.
I base most of my lessons off of English textbooks which are free to download, so that you can follow along and refer back to if you would like. I also create customized Powerpoints based on your abilities, goals, and needs. I love to connect with my students and love hearing about their daily lives. I want us to have FUN while learning, and learn about topics that you're passionate about! For example, I once taught a student that was interested in bird watching, so we worked on vocabulary and conversations based on their hobby. I am also qualified to prepare students for English examinations such as the Cambridge or TOEFL tests.
I look forward to meeting with you and working together!

Hi, I’m Jocelyn. I’m an Architecture student from Bristol, and I go to Cardiff University. I’m taking a year out to go travelling, and have recently moved to Seville in Spain. I was previously volunteering as an English teacher at a Bilingual Academy, and now I'm completing an Architecture Internship. For the last year, I’ve been tutoring students aged 11-18. These have ranged from pupils preparing for curriculum exams, to learning English as their second language.
I have always made sure to be sympathetic to students' situations, and am flexible with lesson lengths and times. I make every effort to accommodate your needs and targets as a student, to ensure we approach the lesson in a way that works best for you. My aim is to facilitate your learning development with interactive lessons that you can fit into your schedule, without making you feel overloaded.
Having a family background in education has inspired me to gain my TEFL qualification, which has given me the knowledge to be able to teach a range of lessons within the subject of English. These include: Business English for a workplace setting, conversational English, grammar and preparing for curriculum exams, to name just a few.
During lessons, lots of speaking is key, as I thrive on being able to build a good relationship with my students. I’m young and enthusiastic, and always welcome questions. If this approach to learning feels like it could work for you, or you’d like to discuss your objectives in more detail, please feel free to book a trial session. I look forward to meeting you.

Creative lessons for creative individuals.
I teach English to students with a love of anything creative and tailor make lessons for you.
Are you creative?
Would you like to learn and talk about art, exhibitions, film and books whilst learning English?
I am trained to make personal lessons for you about interesting topics, which also include all the skills you need to be successful in your language learning.
We will still focus on listening, reading, writing and speaking and include grammar, form and pronunciation, whilst enjoying an interesting topic that makes it easy to discuss and share ideas.
I have taught English in various countries around the world, in Europe and Asia and recently have retrained to specifically teach English online 1:1 to adults.
Maybe you are a student coming to London to study art?

Or maybe you just have a love of art and culture and want to improve your English whilst studying interesting topics?
I believe teaching isn’t just about giving you information on the language, but making you feel comfortable enough to use this language to talk about the things that are of interest to you in your daily life.
I want to give you the opportunity to become happy, confident and comfortable talking about these topics in English and using the language in a natural way.

I have more than four years of experience in teaching English: my introduction to teaching was a volunteering project in a French high school, then it became my profession when I started working in a language school in Szeged, Hungary. In the language school I held business English and everyday English courses for all levels, mostly teaching small groups of adults. Apart from that, I also held private Hungarian and French lessons through the school. Currently I am teaching online because I travel a lot, and working remotely allows me to keep doing what I love, from anywhere in the world.
When you become my student I will ask about your goals, asses your level, and recommend a course book based on your level and needs (I am able to provide a pdf version for you). In case you would only like to practice communication or wouldn't like to learn from a book, we can also simply talk and occassionally use some worksheets to make the lessons more varied and enjoyable. All my lessons are generally very communicative – I try to stay in the background and correct you when necessary, and guide you through the exercises instead of giving you the answers. From experience I know that real learning happens when you figure things out for yourself, and not when you are passively listening for your teacher's explanations.:)

Hello everyone and welcome to my profile! My name is Leon and I'm here to teach you English. I myself am a polyglot and so I have been through the journey of learning a foreign language many times. In addition to English, I also know French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Persian, Turkish and Armenian, and currently learning German and Georgian. If you know one of those languages, I will be happy to explain things in your language from time to time.
Whenever students ask me about the secret to how I have learnt so many languages, I remind them of how they themselves learnt their native tongue as a child. The fact is that there is no secret recipe - humans are born with the capacity to learn any human language that exists. The difference now, once an individual has grown up, is that one feels "scared" to make mistakes, unlike a child, and that an adult also has "less time" to prioritise language learning/acquisition, because of other responsibilities.
I support my students in learning English in accordance with their own preferences. Whether it is a grammar-focused approach, a preference for language immersion or task-based learning, we will discuss the approach that suits your language learning needs most.

On LanguaTalk, you can find exceptional tutors for 1-on-1 English lessons tailored to your goals and learning preferences. Here’s how to try it for yourself:
1 - Find your ideal tutor by browsing videos, reviews, pricing and availability.
2 - Book a trial. Many tutors offer a 30-minute trial for free; others charge a discounted price.
3 - Take personalised lessons with your new tutor via video call. Or try someone else.
No card is required to book a free trial session. Please only book if you’re considering taking lessons. Pricing varies by tutor and you can use the filter to find someone who fits your budget. You can pay one lesson at a time, or buy in bulk for a discount (open a tutor's profile to see their pricing options).
We’re confident you’ll love learning via LanguaTalk. We're trusted by students all over the world because we're transparent. We ask students to rate each lesson, and we display reviews on tutors’ profiles.
99.8% of lesson ratings are 5 stars. Why? Because unlike other platforms, we accept only the top 10% of tutor applications.
To see our full FAQs or get help from our friendly team, click the '?' in the corner of the screen. You can also watch students talking about their experiences learning via LanguaTalk below.
1-on-1 lessons are perhaps the best way to improve speaking skills, and because of this many students use LanguaTalk to learn to speak English fluently. That said, some students have other, more specific goals. Tell your tutor what your goals are and they'll tailor the lessons to your needs. Most tutors can help with any of the following:
New to LanguaTalk? You'll have one credit for a free trial. Most tutors offer a trial for free. If they do not, they’ll offer a trial session at a discount compared to their usual hourly rate.
Trial sessions last 30 minutes. They allow you to assess whether the tutor is a good fit for you, and get a feel for learning online. The tutor will assess your level and aim to understand your needs and interests so that they can customise any lessons you decide to take. You'll be encouraged to speak in English as much as possible, but of course you can speak in English too!
After your session, if you feel that the tutor isn’t quite right for you, you can simply book a trial with someone else.
Most of the English tutors on our site are able to teach students of all levels. When you click on a tutor's profile you'll see if certain levels are not supported. For example, certain tutors cannot teach complete beginners.
Likewise, you can also see on the tutor's profile whether they're suitable for all ages. Online English lessons are sometimes taken to support school/college studies. Usually, the tutor will be able to customise the lessons to follow the material and topics covered in the student's exams. Please note that as per our Terms & Conditions, students who are under 18 must get permission from a legal guardian before booking.
Lessons are taught 1-on-1 so that you receive your tutor’s full attention and can make fast progress. Communicating via video call, you’ll be able to talk to your tutor and share learning materials as if you were in the same room.
The tutors vary in terms of their teaching methods, resources, experiences, and personalities. So we suggest you look at several profiles to choose the best tutor for you. Whichever English tutor you pick, they'll aim to tailor the lessons to your individual needs.
The vast majority of students take 55-minute lessons. But some tutors also provide the option of 30-minute lessons. If they do, you’ll see this noted on their profile (below their pricing and above the ‘Buy Lessons’ button).
55-minute lessons are recommended for most students. In general, we only suggest considering 30-minute lessons if they’re for your child, or you have an intermediate level and only want conversation practice.
We want students to have an exceptional learning experience on LanguaTalk, so we only accept the very best tutor applications. Though we consider qualifications and experience, we place equal value on communication skills, personality and reviews from previous students. Almost all tutors are native speakers of the language they teach, and we require that they can speak English too.
Each tutor is different - they have different backgrounds, strengths, teaching methods and personalities. So we suggest you browse several profiles to find the right English tutor for you.
The beauty of taking lessons online is that you can learn anytime, anywhere. To see tutors who are likely to fit your weekly schedule, use the availability filter at the top. Then when you see a tutor you like, check their profile calendar to make sure their time slots work for you. Some tutors have limited availability as they already have lots of students.
Our booking system is designed to be incredibly easy to use. You can see tutors' available hours in your local time zone. If you choose to book lessons with a tutor, you'll be able to purchase them one at a time, or buy in bulk with a volume discount. You can pay securely by card on our website.
You can manually add bookings to your personal calendar, or if you use Google calendar, you can add bookings automatically with our syncing feature. You'll also be able to receive email reminders to help ensure you don't forget to turn up.
You can reschedule or cancel lessons in a couple of clicks. Note that this can only be done up to 24 hours before the lesson time. This rule is required to protect tutors, who lose income when lessons are cancelled at the last minute.
Sometimes students feel uncertain about learning English online because they think it’ll be totally different to learning face-to-face. But usually when they try it, they find that the experience is almost the same and they often build a strong relationship with their tutor.
Once you start a video call with your chosen English tutor online, you’ll be able to communicate with them as if you were in the same room. They’ll usually also share learning resources with you (using Google Docs, YouTube etc.) and you’ll be able to collaborate in real-time.
According to the Foreign Service Institute, if you already speak English, English is one of the easiest languages to learn. The exact amount of time it will take you to become fluent will depend on many factors, such as your current level, your knowledge of similar languages, your capacity to learn, how you study, and how intensively you study. Some will be able to go from beginner to conversational fluency within a couple of months through intensive study. Others will take longer. Combining 1-on-1 lessons with an online English tutor with regular self-study is an effective way to learn English fast.
If you live in the US or Europe, face-to-face English lessons may cost anywhere between $20 and $60 (USD) per hour. Online tutoring tends to be cheaper than face-to-face because the tutor doesn't need to travel to you. An online English tutor could cost anywhere from $13 to $50 per hour, but be aware that very cheap tutors may lack experience. On LanguaTalk, English tutors typically charge between $14 and $40 per hour.
Of course, learning 1-on-1 with an experienced English tutor is not the cheapest way to learn; you could learn via a free app instead. But if you're serious about learning, nothing beats 1-on-1 English lessons with a great teacher.
There is no 'best way' to learn a language - it depends on your needs, level and budget. If you can't afford to take lessons, you can use a free app such as Duolingo to build your vocabulary. And to improve your listening skills, you can watch TV and listen to podcasts in English. But to learn how to actually speak a language, you need to talk to a native speaker on a regular basis and receive accurate feedback so that you improve. If you want to make fast progress, it's best to take 1-on-1 lessons that are tailored to your needs by an experienced online English teacher.
