I am a friendly, caring and determined person. I like traveling, doing Yoga, hiking and watching movies in my spare time. Being a language teacher is my main passion. I love Chinese characters and Chinese painting. I love working online. It allows me to travel and see more places. I have worked in Shenzhen as an ESL teacher for 10 years. Since then I have been working online as a Chinese teacher for 5 years now. I have been really enjoying my life and I am eager to learn more about Chinese culture and history in my spare time. I hope I can help to show some real culture and story about China to my students.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, I was exposed to an English and mandarin speaking environment at an early age.
I am fluent in Mandarin and my result in the National mandarin proficiency exam is equivalent to the qualification requirement of a Mandarin teacher.
I have been working with students of all ages and different proficiency levels and my teaching style is student-centred. Currently working as a healthcare professional, I have advanced communication skills and am volunteering as an interpreter (Cantonese/Mandarin <-> English)
I am a flexible and approachable person and I aim to make my lessons interactive. I am also happy to share my knowledge and understanding of Chinese/Mandarin culture.

Hey everyone, I'm Mabel who is a full-time traveler and also a part-time online Chinese tutor.
I've been traveling for 7 years now, I've done tons of different things during my travel, Au pairing in Belgium, the US, and Mexico; Working holiday in New Zealand; Backpacking in Europe and Latin America; Working at a resort in the Maldives; volunteering in South Korea and more.
I'm considering that I'm a patient person, very outgoing and open-minded, and maybe a little bit crazy too(in an adventurous way).
I have 4 years of experience teaching Chinese since my first au pair year in Belgium in 2014. And I'm still giving online Chinese classes to my host kids whom I was taking care of as Au Pair in the US, but there isn't much work and I'm thinking about why not give classes to other people who want to learn Chinese, and this always makes me super proud! Thank you for learning my mother tongue!
I will mainly focus on conversation and also pronunciation, as a traveler and also a language lover, I learn some languages during my traveling. I picked up some French and also Spanish, not much but I totally feel you. So, I think communication is the key to getting to know the people and the culture first, but don't worry we'll go over grammar too, It is all-important.
But of course, the class can be tailor-made, everyone has different opinions and I will love to help! But I will be honest that I have a lot of experience with beginners.
Thank you for taking your time to go through my long-talk profile and hopefully I have a chance to talk to you.
On LanguaTalk, you can find exceptional tutors for 1-on-1 Chinese lessons tailored to your goals and learning preferences. Here’s how to try it for yourself:
1 - Find your ideal tutor by browsing videos, reviews, pricing and availability.
2 - Book a trial. Many tutors offer a 30-minute trial for free; others charge a discounted price.
3 - Take personalised lessons with your new tutor via video call. Or try someone else.
No card is required to book a free trial session. Please only book if you’re considering taking lessons. Pricing varies by tutor and you can use the filter to find someone who fits your budget. You can pay one lesson at a time, or buy in bulk for a discount (open a tutor's profile to see their pricing options).
We’re confident you’ll love learning via LanguaTalk. We're trusted by students all over the world because we're transparent. We ask students to rate each lesson, and we display reviews on tutors’ profiles.
99.8% of lesson ratings are 5 stars. Why? Because unlike other platforms, we accept only the top 10% of tutor applications.
To see our full FAQs or get help from our friendly team, click the '?' in the corner of the screen. You can also watch students talking about their experiences learning via LanguaTalk below.
1-on-1 lessons are perhaps the best way to improve speaking skills, and because of this many students use LanguaTalk to learn to speak Chinese fluently. That said, some students have other, more specific goals. Tell your tutor what your goals are and they'll tailor the lessons to your needs. Most tutors can help with any of the following:
New to LanguaTalk? You'll have one credit for a free trial. Most tutors offer a trial for free. If they do not, they’ll offer a trial session at a discount compared to their usual hourly rate.
Trial sessions last 30 minutes. They allow you to assess whether the tutor is a good fit for you, and get a feel for learning online. The tutor will assess your level and aim to understand your needs and interests so that they can customise any lessons you decide to take. You'll be encouraged to speak in Chinese as much as possible, but of course you can speak in English too!
After your session, if you feel that the tutor isn’t quite right for you, you can simply book a trial with someone else.
Most of the Chinese tutors on our site are able to teach students of all levels. When you click on a tutor's profile you'll see if certain levels are not supported. For example, certain tutors cannot teach complete beginners.
Likewise, you can also see on the tutor's profile whether they're suitable for all ages. Online Chinese lessons are sometimes taken to support school/college studies. Usually, the tutor will be able to customise the lessons to follow the material and topics covered in the student's exams. Please note that as per our Terms & Conditions, students who are under 18 must get permission from a legal guardian before booking.
Lessons are taught 1-on-1 so that you receive your tutor’s full attention and can make fast progress. Communicating via video call, you’ll be able to talk to your tutor and share learning materials as if you were in the same room.
The tutors vary in terms of their teaching methods, resources, experiences, and personalities. So we suggest you look at several profiles to choose the best tutor for you. Whichever Chinese tutor you pick, they'll aim to tailor the lessons to your individual needs.
The vast majority of students take 55-minute lessons. But some tutors also provide the option of 30-minute lessons. If they do, you’ll see this noted on their profile (below their pricing and above the ‘Buy Lessons’ button).
55-minute lessons are recommended for most students. In general, we only suggest considering 30-minute lessons if they’re for your child, or you have an intermediate level and only want conversation practice.
We want students to have an exceptional learning experience on LanguaTalk, so we only accept the very best tutor applications. Though we consider qualifications and experience, we place equal value on communication skills, personality and reviews from previous students. Almost all tutors are native speakers of the language they teach, and we require that they can speak English too.
Each tutor is different - they have different backgrounds, strengths, teaching methods and personalities. So we suggest you browse several profiles to find the right Chinese tutor for you.
The beauty of taking lessons online is that you can learn anytime, anywhere. To see tutors who are likely to fit your weekly schedule, use the availability filter at the top. Then when you see a tutor you like, check their profile calendar to make sure their time slots work for you. Some tutors have limited availability as they already have lots of students.
Our booking system is designed to be incredibly easy to use. You can see tutors' available hours in your local time zone. If you choose to book lessons with a tutor, you'll be able to purchase them one at a time, or buy in bulk with a volume discount. You can pay securely by card on our website.
You can manually add bookings to your personal calendar, or if you use Google calendar, you can add bookings automatically with our syncing feature. You'll also be able to receive email reminders to help ensure you don't forget to turn up.
You can reschedule or cancel lessons in a couple of clicks. Note that this can only be done up to 24 hours before the lesson time. This rule is required to protect tutors, who lose income when lessons are cancelled at the last minute.
Sometimes students feel uncertain about learning Chinese online because they think it’ll be totally different to learning face-to-face. But usually when they try it, they find that the experience is almost the same and they often build a strong relationship with their tutor.
Once you start a video call with your chosen Chinese tutor online, you’ll be able to communicate with them as if you were in the same room. They’ll usually also share learning resources with you (using Google Docs, YouTube etc.) and you’ll be able to collaborate in real-time.
If you live in the US or Europe, face-to-face Chinese lessons may cost anywhere between $20 and $60 (USD) per hour. Online tutoring tends to be cheaper than face-to-face because the tutor doesn't need to travel to you. An online Chinese tutor could cost anywhere from $13 to $50 per hour, but be aware that very cheap tutors may lack experience. On LanguaTalk, Chinese tutors typically charge between $14 and $40 per hour.
Of course, learning 1-on-1 with an experienced Chinese tutor is not the cheapest way to learn; you could learn via a free app instead. But if you're serious about learning, nothing beats 1-on-1 Chinese lessons with a great teacher.
There is no 'best way' to learn a language - it depends on your needs, level and budget. If you can't afford to take lessons, you can use a free app such as Duolingo to build your vocabulary. And to improve your listening skills, you can watch TV and listen to podcasts in Chinese. But to learn how to actually speak a language, you need to talk to a native speaker on a regular basis and receive accurate feedback so that you improve. If you want to make fast progress, it's best to take 1-on-1 lessons that are tailored to your needs by an experienced online Chinese teacher.
