I am an experienced German tutor teaching students (individuals and groups) at all levels and all ages.
I am a native German speaker and lived in the UK for 27 years, before returning to Germany in 2023.
Learning a language should be fun and the German you learn should suit the environment you want to use it in. I have experience in working with students with neurodivergences.

Hello! My name is Hilda.
As a foreign language correspondent, I also studied to teach German (DaF teacher) at the Goethe Institute in Munich.
I have been teaching German to people of all ages and all levels for more than 20 years from A0 to C2.
Learning a language is speaking a language. So we're going to have a lot of conversation.
I also prepare you for the Goethe-Zertifikat exam or an equivalent certificate.
- You get your own presentation (My German Course) on Google Slides, your own access to Google Docs, as well an access to an interactive software.
I look forward to a first trial lesson with you.
See you soon,

Hello future students,
Are you looking to bring your German to the next level? Whether you are a complete beginner, intermediate or even advanced German speaker, I'll be able to tailor a lesson just for you. In our lessons, you will be the main character doing most of the talking and writing, but don't worry, I will guide you through it.
I have over three years of teaching experience - both online and classroom teaching - and I have worked with students from 11-55 years old, different levels of German, and various cultural backgrounds. We will try and speak as much German as possible right from the start, but it would be helpful if you spoke some English. If not you won't be able to read this text anyways, so I don't really know why I even wrote it here. Oh well.
If I am not busy teaching German, you can often find me dangling off the end of a rope doing some rock-climbing or going on some stunning hikes, but we can talk more about hobbies in our lessons - in German of course :)
Come book a trial lesson with me and find out what it's all about. I'm looking forward to getting to know you!
Bis bald,
Julia

Depending on your level in German, we come up with topics to talk about in order to practice your conversation skills: travel, politics, the cities we live in, art, culture, the news, your job, your dreams and goals - anything :) It doesn't matter if you're fluent or not, I will adjust to your level (B1 and up) so that you don't feel overwhelmed. Language learning should be fun!
Corrections and suggestions will be provided in the chat box. (this is not a grammar class though so explanations will be kept brief to focus on the conversation and improving fluency.
Given my background as a Communications Director at a global company I'm also happy to include business topics if that's of interest to you. (as well Mock Interview Sessions are possible)
My classes are NOT for beginners. As it is a conversation class, you must be able to hold at least a basic conversation (B1 level or higher)
I look forward to talking with you! :)

Hello my name is Sophia!
I'm from Southern Germany, I studied Social Anthropology in Berlin, travelled some time as digital nomad and live in Argentina right now. I have experience in teaching German on other language platforms for about 2 years now and think its a lot of fun. Last year I got my teachers certificate from the Goethe-Institut. My classes are varied and personal. I like to include writing tasks, hearing tasks, vocabulary games and of course grammar exercises. My goal is to make you gain confidence in speaking and writing while I always try to adapt to your personal interests and learning speed. I am patient and friendly.
My motto: Don't be afraid to make mistakes because that is how you learn.
Looking forward to meet you!

Would you like to learn German with personalized lessons according to your needs and interests? Then I'm the right teacher for you! In my German lessons you will not only learn the correct pronunciation and grammar but also a lot of useful facts and details about the German culture and way of living. This will help you if you are already living in a German-speaking country or plan to move there. I can also help you with exam preparation, such as Goethe-Test, Telc, or TestDaF.
In our German lessons you will find a safe space to practice speaking, make mistakes, get feedback, and little by little get more confident. Together we will create a tailored program designed to practice the specific situations where you will need to use German. We will use role plays, audios, videos, and a lot of different materials in order to improve your speaking, reading, writing and listening skills. Every student has a different learning pace and different needs and interests. In the trial lesson I will find out what your goals are and with that information I will be able to adapt my German lessons so that you will learn German and enjoy doing it!
Since I have a Zoom Business account, you won't need to reconnect to the meeting during our lessons (55 minutes).
Some facts about me: I was born in Spain and raised in Germany, so Spanish and German are my native languages, but I also speak English (C1 level), French (B2 level), and a little bit of Portuguese. Over the last 30 years I have taught languages (English, German, and Spanish) to children and adults of all ages and levels. I've helped several students to pass different language exams.
I love languages and that reflects in my teaching! Don't hesitate and book a trial lesson with me.
See you soon,
Carmen

Tutors on LanguaTalk sometimes provide lessons locally, but most only provide online lessons as it is more convenient and allows them to work from home. In addition, most tutors are not teaching German in Mainz because they're living elsewhere in the world. If you decide to book with a tutor, you should assume that they can only teach you online.
Whether you live in the city centre or the suburbs of Mainz, there are many options for learning German. You could use an app or a software program if you're looking to pick up basic vocabulary and learn some grammar rules. Alternatively, you could attend group lessons with German tutors in Mainz if you're keen for a social experience. Or, you could take 1-on-1 lessons with a private tutor. This isn't the cheapest way to learn a language but it's possibly the most effective, assuming you have a good tutor. Learning online rather than face-to-face may make private tutors a more affordable option. Check the tutor profiles above to see how much it's likely to cost. Prices vary a lot depending on the tutor, but will usually be cheaper than learning with a German tutor in Mainz, face-to-face.
Our research suggests that the average cost for private German lessons in Mainz is somewhere between $25-$35 per hour. As online tutors do not need to travel to you and they often live in countries with a lower cost of living, the hourly cost tends to be significantly lower.
If you're really not keen on learning with a teacher via video call, LanguaTalk isn't going to be the right choice for you. You can instead search for a tutor on a local service listing website, or put up an advert in your local area. We do encourage you to give it a try learning online though - you've got nothing to lose as you can book a free trial session. Most people find the experience is as good as learning face-to-face, but with the benefit of having access to better tutors at a lower cost.
Sometimes students tell us that they're not sure about learning German online because they think it’ll be completely different to learning face-to-face. But usually when they try it, they find that the experience is almost the same and they often build a solid relationship with their tutor.
Once you start a video call with your chosen tutor, you’ll be able to communicate with them as if you were in the same room. The tutor will typically also share learning resources with you (newspaper articles, YouTube, etc.) and you’ll be able to collaborate in real-time using a tool like Google Docs or Dropbox Paper.
New to LanguaTalk? We'll give you a credit for a free trial session. Many, but not all, tutors offer these for free. If they do not, the price will be just 30 percent of their full lesson price, so you can still try a session at minimal cost.
Trial sessions last 30 minutes. They allow you to assess whether the tutor is a good fit for you, and get a feel for learning online. The tutor will assess your level and aim to understand your needs and interests so that they can customise any lessons you decide to take. You'll be encouraged to speak in German as much as possible, but of course you can speak in English too!
If, after your trial session, you don't feel that the tutor is quite right for you, you can book a trial with another tutor for just 30 percent of their full lesson price.
On LanguaTalk, you can find exceptional tutors for 1-on-1 German lessons tailored to your goals and learning preferences. Here’s how to try it for yourself:
1 - Find your ideal tutor by browsing videos, reviews, pricing and availability.
2 - Book a trial. Many tutors offer a 30-minute trial for free; others charge a discounted price.
3 - Take personalised lessons with your new tutor via video call. Or try someone else.
No card is required to book a free trial session. Please only book if you're considering taking lessons. Pricing varies by tutor and you can use the filter to find someone who fits your budget. You can pay one lesson at a time, or buy in bulk for a discount (open a tutor's profile to see their pricing options).
We’re confident you’ll love learning via LanguaTalk. We're trusted by students all over the world because we're transparent. We ask students to rate each lesson, and we display reviews on tutors’ profiles.
99.8% of lesson ratings are 5 stars. Why? Because unlike other platforms, we accept only the top 10% of tutor applications.
To see our full FAQs or get help from our friendly team, click the 'Help' button in the bottom-right. You can also watch students talking about their experiences learning via LanguaTalk below.
The beauty of taking lessons online is that you can learn anytime, anywhere. When you choose a tutor, just check their calendar to make sure that they have available times that fit your schedule. Some tutors have limited availability as they already have a lot of students.
Lessons are taught 1-on-1 so that you receive your tutor’s full attention and can make fast progress. Communicating via video call, you’ll be able to talk to your tutor and share learning materials as if you were in the same room.
The tutors vary in terms of their teaching methods, resources, experiences, and personalities. So we suggest you look at several profiles to choose the best tutor for you. Whichever German tutor you pick, they'll aim to tailor the lessons to your individual needs.
The vast majority of students take 55-minute lessons. But some tutors also provide the option of 30-minute lessons. If they do, you’ll see this noted on their profile (below their pricing and above the ‘Buy Lessons’ button).
55-minute lessons are recommended for most students. In general, we only suggest considering 30-minute lessons if they’re for your child, or you have an intermediate level and only want conversation practice.
